To add on to this, PvP isn’t the only place where this idea of content being an afterthought has been present. SL is more than enough proof that we regressed hard involving development ideas, and thoughts, as well as the willingness to listen to feedback as is evident by things like Conduit Energy and the statement made on it.
PvP isn’t an afterthought when actual care is put into it. This includes regular balancing, proper addressing of outliers that’re either under performing, or over performing, and discussions with the PVP player base in the form of patch notes which also include insight from the developers informing us of why decisions are made. Either someone is over performing in a specific bracket, or what have you.
We had all of that from Legion backward. BFA and SL? Obvious problems.
Back when arena first became a thing and Blizzard was pushing the e-sports thing hard in the beginning they screwed up class balance in PvE quite a few times to accommodate pvp balance.
PvP in Classic was insanely unbalanced, so when arena was introduced in BC they had to start ping ponging class balance back and forth, trying to balance both PvP and PvE which created some crazy times in both areas of the game.
If they only cared about PvE and PvP was ONLY an afterthought then none of that would have happened.
I remember stretches of time in BC and Wrath when they would hotfix every week because their latest balance fix created some kind of crazy bug or OP spec.
The attempts to balance the classes in PvP and PvE is why the whole flavor of the month classes thing even came into existence.
I think the only development that has gone into PvP for 9.2 was an arena map, completed by a dev that was hired specifically to make PvP maps. We aren’t even getting our own tier, the PvE bonuses are just being shucked into the great vault and the catchup system. No efforts or resources being spent on the gearing systems, no attention really being paid to how 2 legendaries will affect PvP etc…
I dunno, I don’t think PvP has any effect on the rest of the game right now.
I gave up any hope of getting the seasonal elite mogs. So I just collect the mogs using marks of honor. Now usually only when Compstomp is up.
Can’t convince me to do rated arenas or rated bgs just to be good in random bgs. I just accept there is stuff I will never get with the fomo seasonal stuff.
That would be several rented power systems needing tweaks to appease the sim/parse crowd. Oh crap, missed one again. and there is the sim with the wth bar of imba doom lead. fix that now.
PvP’s biggest imba has a very clear cause.
you have a fresh 60 I will be nice and give them full 177 pvp gear. Maybe 25 to 29K this setup. Now you send them to go one on one with a 250 bear pushing 700K. that ends 1 way…that new 60 is dead in seconds.
And lets not forget blizzard can see a whole Arena tourney and not notice its the same few comps. Always.
but there was limit (think them)…oh so close to nyalotha world’s first. phase 3(?) glitch happened (more like it didn’t happen that I recall) and every instance was pulled till fixed.
they watch worlds first…not arenas. Odd that…they run the arena show. Worlds first is a player driven construct. Hell it was a limit run stream even that I recall.
Me…I would have let nyalotha stand personally. Game tested and signed on off on, own the qa error.
Nope…several devs and server admins on the clock to push the kill instance button and late night code fix.
Don’t be disingenuous here. I’ve stated numerous times that I don’t support PvP boosting because it negatively hurts another players gaming experience.
