[Artist] got a C&D

Just heard this from a guildie who likes Draenei a little too much, but apparently Blizzard issued a C&D Order to [Edited by Blizzard]. Why? What was actually happening to justify such action?

(Yes, I am aware [Edited by Blizzard] is WoW Smut).

After the briefest and most quickly terminated Google search ever, I saw the dude had a Patreon with ~1500 patrons. It’s quite likely Blizzard doesn’t want people profiting off the 34th rule of the internet in regards to their intellectual property. It’s within their rights to control distribution of their IPs however they see fit.

From my knowledge of Fair Use Regulations, the 34th Rule is covered under the exemption of Satire.

Companies like this tend to blatantly ignore copyright law, knowing they can’t practically be sued, or find incredibly small loopholes to circumvent it. Never underestimate the power of having teams of lawyers in your employ.

The precedent I’m aware of (#WhereTheFairUse is still fresh in some minds), it’s the motive that puzzles me. Blizzard wouldn’t gain much financially, even if they won the dispute, and it would only be seen as an attack on a section of their fanbase (Don’t say it isn’t there; Goldshire Inn is a thing).

good, people need to stop obsessing over female cartoon characters and get outside more often.

Just so you know- Smut has a wide range of “things”. It’s not all about “obsessing over females”. I am a MxM type of person myself. Not naughty mind you but just fiction.

well sure I suppose just cartoon characters woulda worked. But still I’m tired of seeing these pictures of anime girls on pillows on my facebook news feed!!!

I’m Ase/xual. I don’t care about women or men. I just read MxM fiction. Fiction vs Real life and all of that. Two different things.

Congrats?

Seems kinda dumb to me. I’m not into cartoon smut but stuff like this is traditionally considered “fair use” and they run the risk of drawing the wrong kind of attention to something so minor.

The last thing Blizzard needs is to invite the attention of some activist group. I can see the VICE video now

Not at all. I am just not sure how you are complaining about what is on your facebook feed. Ya know? Being your facebook and all. The kind of thing YOU have complete control over.

I’m pretty sure the relevance of my first reply went over your head

It didn’t go over my head. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t people who take that seriously. That’s why I clarified (for those who do) that Smut isn’t just “female” or even “femalexfemale” or even “femalexmale”.

good god the inclusive requirements of today’s society

…Are we still talking about fiction? Doesn’t seem like it.

Nah man 2D women > 3D women any day.
