I have come across articles on the internet that highlight how great Artificial Intelligence is and how it can act as fake players/bots to appear to be real players. Allowing game companies to fill mmorpgs with these A.I. bots to convince real players that the mmorpg still has high numbers of real players while the reality is the population has been declining substantially.
I kinda laughed at first. Thinking this to be ridiculous. But then I started thinking about how in WoW and some of the other mmorpg games I play these days, real players no longer talk to each other. When Iâve been in a dungeon group, itâs complete silence. Even when I say hello, hows everyone doing. I get silence. I might occasionally get back a âHiâ and sometimes at the end of a dungeon run I might see a written âggâ. But what little rare player banter there is sounds canned.
Then I thought about Follower Dungeons. Those NPC companions sometimes act better than real players. To be honest they are more responsive than real players. So how hard would it be to fill the game with fake players. I mean like while you run around in the game world you really donât talk to anyone. And dungeons are silent. You donât even see the toxic crowd yelling at others anymore.
So is there a possibility that a lot of the players we see running around in WoW are not real players any more, but A.I. controlled NPC bots. Even when you speak to them they could reply semi-intelligently? I am getting real Stepford Wives vibes. Lol.

Additionally, just about about every post on this forum is AI bot generated. Especially the ones a rare actual human might disagree with!

Doesnât hurt the players really. Hurts the company that is using it more. One, it does take time and money to use AI. Also, lying to yourself and players does not benefit the company. The gaming community doesnât listen to mainstream game news sources anymore as we listen more to independent media to actually hear the truth about games we may be interested in.

This already existed in some Battle Royales, before LLMâs were the current craze of AI slop. And now that same genre has more advanced AI doing the same thing as before but âbetterâ.
Weâll probably see AI agents within other MMORPGâs as âplayersâ within 2-4 years for sure, there is nothing illegal about it. And the processing power will be drastically reduced by then. But I donât think WoW really needs to do that since itâs so popular.
The only validity something like this would have in WoW is if it dynamically spawned in âAI playersâ in empty zones a player is leveling or exploring. Giving them a chance to help them or get helped by them - something to that effect. Otherwise normal current zones are always filled with players.

I see ai players all the time when Iâm out gathering. Weird they are all druids with the same armor same hp and fly in the same pattern though lol.

The AI takeover crisis has already happened. There is no way you can convince me that i havenât been convinced by an AI to believe that everyone I have ever met is in fact an AI in disguise.

The must have designed the AI of the followers from PvP Players.
PvP is the only other place i see folks jumping around like frogs with their butts on fire.

But run a follower dungeon and watch Brann for 30 seconds and
Becomes a real questionable proposition.

The only reason to add AI into the mix is if you also want them to say slurs.
