Arthritis issues

So I am thinking of returning to WoW BFA, and the last time I played was Legion.

I have a severe kind of arthritis that limits the amount of actions my hands can properly achieve.

What class would be a good choice for solo progression and grouping in dungeons that require fewer key presses?

I loved playing healers but it is rather difficult to switch people I need to heal quickly without issues.

I am guessing I will need to move to DPS and I was thinking a demon hunter which I played in Legion but I honestly don’t remember a lot.

Any input would be great on this.

=)

For the lowest number of button presses, Retribution Paladin or Beast Mastery Hunter are probably your best choices. Both classes have a very small number of required actions, and the newly introduced comprehensive gcd means slower rotations all around.

If you want to stick to healing, however, you might want to look into a mouseover or click-based healing addon, which will allow you to simply use preset spells on whoever you have your mouse on in a raidframes setup. Personally I’m fond of Healbot, but other good ones include Vuhdo and Clique.

I have a solution to your problem. Grab the popular Logitech G600 mouse on Amazon. It has 12 side buttons with modifers that you use with thumb. you can also assign Shift + mouse buttons, Alt, Cntrl, etc. You could put ALL skills on the mouse no problem and just move with the keys.

The mouse has 12 side buttons I’ve been using it for like 5 years. There are newer ones but they are alot more expensive. The G600 is cheap and is also good for players with average and above average hands. I tried a few others that were too small. The best thing with having instant skills on the mouse is you dont have to take your fingers off the movement keys (and stop moving) to use them.

I actually use a similar mouse with 8 buttons and it is immensely helpful. I am able to get more skills, but the problem isn’t just having 8-12 buttons ready to push, but also having the reflexes to press them at the right time.

I have good reflexes to about 4 of the buttons on the mouse and then I can use 3-4 more keys on the keyboard for actions on top of the AWSD movement keys.

Simple rotations make my life much easier as far as my hands, while complex rotations tend to lose me and I find it hard to get caught back up.

Definitely look into “click to use” healing addons then, especially if you would prefer to continue in that role rather than switching to dps.

7-8 buttons is plenty to play either of the classes I mentioned. BM Hunter has a primary rotation that includes only 5 actions (Cobra Shot, Barbed Shot, Kill Command, Bestial Wrath, and Aspect of the Wild), while Ret Paladin uses 6 primary abilities (Crusader Strike, Judgement, Wake of Ashes, Blade of Justice/Blade of Wrath, Avenging Wrath, and Templar’s Verdict), although typically Ret also talents into Hammer of Wrath and Inquisition as well for a total of 8.

Both are fairly forgiving in terms of picking up when you miss a cast as well, so they would both make good choices.

Awesome thanks.

How many buttons are Warlock and DH generally?

Right now I think I am leaning to BM Hunter

Warlock has more keys than Havoc DH. The warlock specs all play very different. Havoc is the easiest spec in the game to play and not many keys, but your stuck with only one dps spec, which is very bad IMO if you don’t want to tank.

Also, movement precision is very important with melee specs so Arthritis may hinder your performance

Movement isn’t bad as my left hand literally rests on those movement keys.

So it sounds like my best options would be BM Hunter, Ret Pally, or DH.

It seems like Ret Pallies are not in a good place currently.

DH’s seem like they are in a good place.

I don’t seem to find any info on where BM Hunters stand.

In heroic palace, BM hunters and havoc dh are currently side by side above average. In mythic +, havoc is top tier and BM mid pack. (See Warcraft logs).

If you never want to tank, I think BM hunter is the better choice. 3 dps specs means 3 times more variety, nerf protection, and less chance of boredom. You may end up playing marksman and/or survival later.

I should have mentioned this earlier. Make 110 trial chars of all those classes, go through the short tutorial, use the icy veins rotations on the dummy on the boat. For the ones you like, take them to the 15 min scenario battle.

Then you will KNOW what you like, how many keys, Hand comfort. Etc. I made 110 trials of every class that I didn’t already have leveled.

I’m an old player with similar issues. I keep a large rubber-band and 2.5lb hand weights by my computer. The rubber-band helps keep the digits from cramping.
Sitting stagnate for long periods causes my shoulders to cramp up, so the weights help loosen up the joints. I had a friend use soup cans.
