Arthas' Return

I think I speak for the veteran players when I remind Blizzard that what they did to Arthas’ story was a crime. I’d like to see him return and redeem himself. It is very possible due to time being so conveniently reshaped throughout almost every expansion so far.

Anyone have any thoughts on the chances of him returning?

Nah, he’s gone for good, good riddance.

Speak for yourself

The manchild is dead and gone and thank god for that.

It was fine.
Arthas’s story ended with WC3FT/Wrath and Uther got his salvation in Shadowlands and it was ensured that Arthas could never be revived.

It’s the end. Move on. You’re like an annoying ex that won’t stop messaging months later.

Let our sweet prince rest. He doesn’t deserve to see Warcraft in its current state.

I’m pretty sure he is gone gone. However I will admit that it is curious that they made that Arthas content recently.

Eh. With Blizzard it’s all about whether someone on the writing team has the will and the clout to push a story through. If someone wants to write Arthas coming back, they’re not going to let a little thing like past story content stop them.

Personally, I don’t really care one way or the other. His story had a good ending in WotLK. The Shadowlands bit was stupid and unnecessary, but, whatever—I wouldn’t be too surprised if that whole expansion gets quietly soft-retconned someday anyway. If someone wants to do more with him … well, I’ll wait to see whether the new story is any good.

Good. Hopefully someone does because his end in Shadowlands was so awful Blizzard had to delist the actual cinematic.

Velen was ready to forgive Kil’jaeden at the end. And then he went on to start a redemption program for some of the most monstrous beings in the cosmos.

So if we’re redeeming literal Demons, then the actions of a Fallen Prince and Fallen Ranger General are within acceptable parameters.

The new Arbiter says no one deserves hell, so yeah why not.

You get a redemption!

And you there, you get a redemption too!

But only because you wanted it! You have to want it, at the very least.

Funny how Blizz still has it up on YouTube

I think you speak for yourself and yourself alone.

I played WoW since Vanilla, and I played WC 3 before that. Arthas deserved more punishment and more grinding his name into the dirt than he got - he got off easy.

Hopefully zero.

So should Sylvanas and yet that didnt happen.

Considering no other villain has done similar damage to the world Arthas’ ending was well deserved. He was an arrogant spoiled guy who threw a tantrum when he didn’t get his will. I don’t know why he still has fans.

His story ended with WotLK.
I don’t know why Blizzard keeps bringing him up.

But my guess is he’s still inside Anduin.

I think we know if Arthas came back it probably end up killing and turning most of the Alliance Heroes Leaders into his new DKs and we end up killing them all… and that would set social media on fire for sure!
Not to mention that his first act would probably be to kill the Arbiter and usurp his power of the souls of the Dead and basically SL 2.0!

The hype would be crazy, but the problem is: "Why would he return? To fight the Void? We still don’t know what exactly is the Void fears about death in the WoW lore.

He is a bad guy through and through hated by most… the amount of effort and story to make this work would be such a risk and monumental investment… I can see many Devs saying NOPE I ain’t touching that! I will admit that seeing Arthas fighting side by side with Illidan does sound epic in my head but I fear what it would actually turn out to be… The story lately has not been hitting the mark with a lot of players… and I fear what it could do to the story if Arthas does return.

However I AM curious WHY was Arthas Story brought back through Cho what’s the connection to the current story and if it has to do with Yogg-Saron or his actions through history with the Curse of Flesh, Emerald Nightmare etc.

Speculation why the Void fears Death

I mean one could speculate that if the Void opens the path to countless truth and possibilities, but Death at its core would be the deadend or hard stop of all possibilities and that could be the reason why the Void fears it, it can’t see pass death, they dread an end to all outcomes no matter how many, for even in light there is at least one singular path that the Void could branch out, but in death it does not matter. I also suspect why the Light made the bargain with Death, because to the Light a singular path that leads to a singular end is basically what it stands for… IMO I can see why they join forces and the source of these new undead, as weird as they are.

TL;DR: I honestly think it’s better to built up a new character or characters that have been left in obscurity over the years of WoW rather than keep resurrecting out OG ones… I know it’s harder to do but that’s why you hire people with the talent to do just that. We already have a few new Heroes and Villains that have been popular I think they should work with does or create a specific character to fill the role of an Arthas in this era, you already have an Arathi Empire and an Evil Faction of Humans who are not happy with the Alliance. So work first with that!
My other bias (yes I NEED to say it! You know it lololol) suggestion bring Chromatus into the picture with Iridikron! Iridikron has that Lich King vibe on him… and with Chromatus power by his side or if he decides to take it for himself he be as much as a threat! Other than that have Illidan forge “Mourglaves” with the power of Death and you don’t have to make Arthas comeback to fight the Void… I know these are silly ideas but my point is, I would suggest other options before bring back such an Iconic Villain to the story as it could damage it irreparably if things don’t workout, specially with something like a redemption arc. (IMO)

I personally think they should just leave Arthas alone he had a really good story as a guy with good intentions who fell to corruption. Was Shadowlands story for him trash? Yes, but lets just leave Arthas alone.

With that said, i agree with Xoroth here… its suspicious that they brought back Arthas’ story for the lorewalking. Both the Ethereal and Xal’atath stories made sense as they were tied to the upcoming story, but why Arthas?

My wild theory is that there will be Arthas content when we go back to Northrend in The Last Titan. Whether its minor story stuff, or something crazy like we jump to an alternate timeline where Arthas is still alive as the Lich King in Northrend I dont know.

Blizzard does like their team up with bad guys to fight the bigger bad guy, so maybe we join up with an alternate timeline Lich King to fight the Void. Not saying I think thats a good idea, but you know how Blizzard is.
