Art from chronicle

Am I crazy or has the art in volume 4 a huge downgrade from volume 1?

I mean don’t get me wrong, not all of the art in volume 4 is bad and there’s some bad ones in volume 1, but a lot of it is significantly less detailed than volume 1.

Some of it looks like it had a brush filter applied to it to hide detail work that simply wasn’t done.

You can do better Blizzard, Hire good artists and don’t rush them.

I haven’t purchased it and after hearing about how screwy they made the lore I’m not sure if I will.

Do you have any pictures you can reference or add to the thread to provide context?

I would not invest any mental energy into Chronicle at this stage. It’s just titan fan fiction.

I just looked up all the artists credited in volume 4 and they all showcase art that is on another level from what is in this book.

I don’t think Blizzard gave them time to work tbh, or didn’t give them enough creative agency.

I can’t really provide pictures to compare since you’d need them to be the same resolution to be a fair comparison and I’m really trying to be un-biased but if you have both books, compare

“The Titan-forged battle the elemental lords”
or
“Keeper Thorim Discovers the body of his wife, Sif”

To

“Horde and Alliance engage in battle at serpent’s heart”

or

“Sylvanas and saurfang duel before the gates of orgrimmar in the final hour of the fourth war”

or

“Kyrian repel an attack from the forsworn at the temple of the purity in bastion”

And the difference really jumps out at you.

What’s even the point of Vol 4? Does it tell us anything we didn’t already know?

The point of chronicle four is the same as chronicle one.

It’s a history of the game universe of sorts

Volume four covers mop - shadowlands.

This is nonsense. The “Titan point of view” comment is not nearly as complicated or lore breaking as people think. It just means that the book is written from the point of view of someone on Azeroth - like Brann Bronzebeard (a Dwarf, the descendents of Earthen, who were created by the Titans).

It’s the world/universe as it is understood by the people who live there. It’s no different than reading a history book on Earth. If we discover something new next year and learn that the planet is actually a toy some alien child plays with for entertainment, that doesn’t mean that all the historians for thousands of years were trying to trick us.

And the art is fine. The difference is that you’re primarily looking at art for events you already saw in game instead of past events that were only mentioned in passing or in other books. Chronicle 4 was never going to be as interesting as the first 3 books because it covers expansions you already played instead of backstory.

A stick figure can be fine but seriously compare those images and tell me there isn’t a consistent lowering of quality of the art.

I’m not talking about the content of the books I’m talking strictly about the artwork within it.

Compare the image of the thunder king fighting with the white tiger from volume 1 with him being resurrected by the Zandalari in volume 4 if you need similar context to compare with.

I honestly couldn’t care less about people’s gripes about the lore.

Yeah but Vol 1 gave us a lot of new info. Does Vol 4 really give us any new info, or does it just summarize the already known lore from MOP - SL?

It does if you didn’t know that stuff already.
You understand that not everyone knows the same things as you right?

Like you probably know George Washington was the first US president, but they still print history textbooks.

The only people who would waste money on this book are lore nerds and hardcore fans who already know the story from these expansions anyways. No casual is gonna waste money on this book when they can just find a summary of the expansions’ lore for free on Google
