Armory character and background image not showing

It looks like all of my lvl 50s are affected. I do not have Shadowlands. It’s possible that this was related to an armory update to show covenant backgrounds (which does not apply in my case). The armory pages of my toons look fine on Firefox for iOS but not on Firefox 83 for Windows.

EDIT: it looks like toons below lvl 50 are affected as well.

My armory profile is only showing vertical bars where my armory portrait and background should be.

The mouseover armor tooltips are gone. I have to click on the armor item to see the tooltip. I’m not sure if this change is intentional or a bug. I am on a computer, not a mobile device.

My talents are not showing up either. I was going to look up which talents I have to help a friend from outside the game, but those are blank too.

EDIT: Here is a lvl 45 that has the same issue. One of my failed attempts at leveling a horde toon:

As a side note, I would like there to always be the possibility of showing the racial background on the armory (or the class-based ones for DH or DK). I wanted that option in Legion too tbh. I chose the night elf race for most of my toons for lore reasons and I would like that to show in the armory by using the racial background instead of a background based on the xpac theme (class halls in Legion and covenants in SL).

To add to this - there are times where my armory profiles will give a 404 error on toons that I’ve been playing today. The rest of the time I have the graphical error showing vertical bars instead of the armory background and character image (and no talents shown).

Hi Taco,

Sorry to hear of the troubles you are experiencing with your character profiles. Would it be possible for you to provide a screenshot of the vertical bars issue you are experiencing? Thanks

Hi Maguthul,
Thanks for the response. Here are 2 pictures of the vertical bars, one showing the missing talents. The vertical bars change color each time I refresh the armory. These are from the armory profile of the toon I am posting on (Tacothebell-Lightbringer).

Hi Taco,

Thank you for the screenshots.

Unfortunately, I am not able to reproduce the issue on Firefox 83 for Windows.

Some technical details:

To support new features with Shadowlands we did update the technology used to render Character Profile images to leverage WebGL, so your issue could suggest that you have outdated graphics drivers or another issue preventing WebGL from running properly. If you click the WebGL link above, it should show you a message indicating if WebGL is working properly on your system or not.

I am not 100% if this could be the issue or not, but it might be a good place to start.

I tried the WebGL link you posted and it does work on this older laptop in Firefox 83.

I am on my older laptop while my newer laptop is getting repaired. It has 2 video cards (GeForce GTX 870M and integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600). It was manufactured in March 2014.

The driver vesion for the Intel HD Graphics 4600 video card according to the Device Manager windows utility is 20.19.15.5166 from 8/8/20.

The driver version for the GeForce GTX 870M according to the Device Manager windows utility is 25.21.14.2531 from 4/9/19. I checked the Nvidia website and that is the most recent driver version to support the GeForce GTX 870M.

It looks like Firefox is set to prefer the Intel integrated graphics card with the newer drivers.

I checked 2 other browsers, both Chromium-based. I am able to get my armory profile to view on both of them.

Vivaldi 3.4.2066.106 (Stable channel) (32-bit)
I had to allow scripts from 2 cloudfront websites in the umatrix extension to get it to show, but after that it worked. umatrix on Firefox didn’t make a difference. I now have umatrix disabled completely on worldofwarcraft.com and I am still seeing the vertical bars.

Microsoft Edge version 87.0.664.52 64-bit

Vivaldi and Firefox have similar extensions installed, but Microsoft Edge is a fresh install.

The extensions I use on Firefox are uBlock Origin, umatrix, Privacy Badger, DuckDuckGo, and HTTPS Everywhere.

I tried disabling them one by one, but it didn’t make a difference in Firefox specifically. After that I tried disabling them all at once and cleared the cache - that still didn’t make a difference and I am still seeing the vertical bars in the pictures that I posted in my previous post yesterday.

The extensions I use on Vivaldi are uBlock Origin, umatrix, HTTPS Everywhere, Privacy Badger, and uBlock Origin Extra.

I have another data point now that I have my new computer back with a fresh installation of Windows. I updated the graphics drivers for both cards (Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 and Intel integrated UHD Graphics 630.

The armory profile looks fine in Vivaldi and Microsoft Edge, but in Firefox I am still having the same issue with the vertical bars in the screenshots in my previous post.

One thing that I’m finding interesting is that uBlock Origin is showing differences between the browsers when it comes to which domains they are connecting to. That might be a factor in addition to the possibility of a Firefox-specific issue.

I took a screenshot of a side by side comparison with Vivaldi on the left and Firefox on the right.

I keep trying to get the armory images to work in Firefox. I downloaded the image of my DH in Vivaldi and opened it in Firefox. The image does load (see below). The file I downloaded of the pic of my DH’s armory background is a .jpg, while the image with the bars that loads in Firefo is a .png with base64 encoding.

Here is a list of errors and warnings from Firefox’s web console:

Hopefully this can help troubleshoot why the armory isn’t showing correctly in my installation of Firefox.

I was trying to look up an achievement on the armory, but it didn’t work in Firefox. It looks like at least part of the problem has to do with scripts that load information including talents and achievements failing to run.

Here’s a picture showing the dungeons and raids panel with zero information other than headers:

EDIT: I found an old toon whose armory had not been updated in months even though I’d given him a new hair cut after the new customizations came out. This toon is still showing the old-style night elf full beard option that looks slightly different now.

The background shows up, but you can see the vertical bars below it and the talents aren’t showing up. I’ve included 2 screenshots - one of the top of the armory page showing the outdated character portrait with the vertical bars below and another screenshot showing some of the vertical bars as well as the missing talents.
