I’ve been running upwards of 27 characters this year each day, with curses on those that are strong enough to do it and without for the rest, I even spent some time spamming level 10s because they are ridiculously OP and yes, the mount has dropped for some level 10’s, so we can assume the pet should too. I done the same last year with as many level 60+ characters as I had when that was the level limit.
This year I have over 30 brooms, over a dozen sinister slices and horrific hoods and from last year a SPARE MOUNT, but no Arfus.

Got it finally tonight on alt #12. Instead of “wow”, I thought, “well that’s done”

I didn’t do the event last year so went to try my luck and see what those curses were about, got the pet so I guess I still have my luck.
So I didn’t bother running HH with more than a handful of characters last year, every other day–This time I ran it multiple times every day; Usually with all curses, some with none. Got abundance of Squashlings and masks… The mount dropped on a Lvl 10 HM Guardian Druid I kept remaking to farm Arfus. 
No ghost doggo for me this year. 
Still no dog and if I am very lucky I might have a chance to do 1 last run before I have to be offline for travel.
Someone I ran with this morning offered it to me, but it wasn’t tradable or cageable. So sad, but it cheered me that someone was nice enough to offer.
My warlock only seems to get rings as drops. She has a bucket of the useless things at this point.
Edit: well, tried a couple of last runs last night despite a laggy connection. My warlock got yet another ring, the rest just got candy and masks.
Won’t be able to try any more and pondering just forgetting this altogether next year.

current update, last 2 days and STILL no Arfus, how can RNG be this bad on a battle pet they SAID they would fix the drop rate on last year???
this is 2 years now without this pet, pretty pathetic of an event when an epic quality mount is easier to come by then a blue quality pet, unless its a squashling, tired of deleting those things

got it on my first HH run on my first toon (this one) since i just started the game.
now the mount is another story, tried over 100x on various alts no luck on that one, i’d prefer the mount!
Final full day.
Up to 24 attempts today.
I’ve done hard mode, I’ve done easy mode. I’ve used the exact same character for the first kill every day since about day three.
I’ve gotten all the transmog, multiple swords and helmets, a million masks and treats and candy.
I even got the manuscript.
But after 250+ tries over 14 days, no Arfus.
I’m tired and frustrated.
Let the mount be the impossible drop, not a pet.
I’ve run once a day-ish on only 1 toon this year and I’ve gotten both Arfus and the mount to drop. Took about 2 weeks.
2 years, 20 plus toons every day, 23 more minutes to try…
Tried once more today before the event ended and was blessed enough to finally get Arfus. But the grind was real, the grind was insane, and the grind should not have been that necessary. Yeesh.

Arfus has a 1.7% drop rate according to wowhead, so only marginally better rate than the mount.
