Finally got it and can stop running HH.
Oddly enough I was running it entirely on my hordies. Went through like ten a day with zero luck. Yesterday decided to give my one higher level alliance dps a go.
Got the Arfus. So happy. :')
It probably has nothing to do with the drop chance but hey, maybe try it?
I feel for you. Mine dropped yesterday on my Mage when I was not paying attention. Was in my bags almost an hour before I spotted him. I wish you lots of luck!
You canāt convince me that the mount or the pet drop.
Oh that headless mount dropped for my warlock, like 2 minutes before the end of the event. Before it was account wide. I figured it matches the warlock so watevs.
Was only doing that event for the broom mount (which I heard was on the Trading Post when I was on Wow-break). But now I got a permanent one from the store so all is well.
I had it on my original accountā¦ but it wonāt drop for this one. I sincerely believe that Blizzard is trolling me.

I am a pet collector with over 1800 unique pets. It is very definitely for me, and the drop rate is stupid.

I did a quick edit to your quote, and in my opinion you arenāt wrong. Based on my anecdotal experience. (The plural of anecdote is not data by the way.)
So over the last few years there have been several occasions where I have been unsubscribed for several months at a time. For a couple of expansions Iād wait to the end of an expansion then resub a few months before the next one dropped. To gear and run the last raid on LFR difficulty with one or two chars. Then play the first month or two of the new patch before quitting again. (Iād also make sure to get a month in November if that didnāt align with start/end of a patch to get the Anniversary log in feat of strength.)
When coming back it seems that for gear drops at least, the odds seemed really cranked in my favor. I remember logging onto my shammy. (Maybe at the end of BfA?) and running 4 heroic dungeons.
Every. Single. Dungeon. Bossā¦ dropped something that was an upgrade. No duplicates either. It was like:
Queue LFR: Tier, Weapon, Ring

My second char was no where near as lucky. The thirdā¦ felt like she wasnāt getting anything at all, but was probably just back to the normal drop rate.
Ever since then Iāve been sure Blizzard is tweaking the drop rate values behind the scenes.
That hasnāt been the only time Iāve had hot streaks when coming back after being away for a few monthsā¦
I have also noticed this. Anecdotal as well. But there have been times where I resubbed to the game after a while, and got a rare mount to drop or something.
Whatās also annoying is the fact that a pet is as rare as a mountā¦ come on blizzā¦

no Arfus for me yet either.
I did get the mount
in 2023
so only took me like 10 years to get that one
hoping Arfus drops sooner than that.

Over 50 runs so far this year (well over 100 last year)ā¦ no Arfus. Iām sorryā¦ thatās just wrong for a pet, especially when itās holiday related.
Iāve received this stupid pet twice and no mount. Very exhausting.
This is why they should allow it to at least be transferred to another player.
I use curses every time, all of them, over 150 runs in 2 years now, no Arfusā¦
i only ran this year the event maybe 10 times total and i got 2 arfus doggies (you can only have āoneā) but the 2nd one sold for 30g.
also the 2nd one that dropped i didnt take any of the curses
I still havenāt managed to get the drake customisation.
Is there anything to that curse nonsense? I have run a chunk of guys with it and usually get nothing but candies and a mask. Occasionally a ring.
