Aren't all of our WoW characters technically undead?

After your character dies the first time in game and you’re revived…from that point on aren’t you just undead?

How WoW handles resurrection for in-game gameplay purposes and actual lore purposes has always been a muddled mess.

I mean technically Argus killed everyone who raided him and we got brought back, so yeah. We undead.

I’ve always understood it as “we’re unconcious/almost dead, not completely dead”
This seems backed up by Illidan’s lines to the Demon Hunter pc in the starting zone. The PCs have “immortal souls” so they can just jump back in their “corpse” before it’s too late.

For normal death, it’s always too late, hence becoming undead, but for us, that “too late” doesn’t pass, therefore not undead.

Or put simply, we didn’t die, we just got the soul knocked out of us.

There’s mostly dead and all dead! Sometimes, when I’m a ghost running back to my corpse, I noticed that my health bar said 1%, but other times it’s says 0%.

From a lore perspective, there is no returning from death, unless we count what the Lich King or Sylvanas’ Valkir are doing.

In battle, I think of it as: the character becomes unconscious agonizing on the verge of death but you can still save them with restorative magic… A kind of a “Magical CPR”, for the sake of a name.

I’ve always been undead but I can see the point you are making.
However I believe the term undead also refers to something that is neither dead or alive but functions like a living being (dks and forsaken fit this description). When normal players died and are revived, they are literally brought back to their prior state.

Almost like time is negative and our wounds are reverse, except for our armor status.

Its called Ghost Awoke. It’s pretty expensive though totally worth it!

I always figured we were just avatars of the gods of Azeroth, placed on the planet to run around mucking things up.

Think about it - we’re effectively immortal, and have power on-par with or exceeding the most dangerous and powerful beings in the known universe. We’ve killed (or at least matched) Titans and their emissaries and Old Gods… repeatedly, and we’ve continued to get stronger over time, to the point where most of us are capable of going back and obliterating those same beings singlehanded where once it took up to 40 of us…

If we’re not gods or their avatars, we’re well on our way to it.
