Firstly, I REALLY appreciate the direction blizzard is going with listening to the community and taking chances with new types of content and easier access to the playing the game.
That being said… Plunder is not the game type for me.
WoW Arena needs the same ease of access as Plunder does. I think being able to log in, create a character and PvP and at even playing field would do wonders for increasing the PvP player base in this game. Lets be honest, gear progression for PvP isn’t fun and I think making the game more accessible for competitive players would do wonders for the seemingly shrinking PvP community in WoW.
WoW Arena is incredibly unique and I personally know several friends that would get back into playing WoW, if they can simply log in and play arena or RBGs the way players can now do with Plunder.
Create a starter zone for players that can create a character, min/max gear (for stats) that they can buy from a vendor, hit some target dummies and que arena ALL DAY. Make this game mode accessible to anyone who subscribes to the game, and if they buy the BASE game, allow them to move that character to Azeroth.
I was thinking of something along these lines, like an Arena Dressing Room & Lobby or something similar, where you could bring characters from any version of the game and outfit/equip them for Arena style matches.
Some immediately obvious issues I see that may be interesting to try to tackle would be trying to balance different talents and skills across multiple expansions and levels. They could try some sort of power normalization, but this makes me think of the OP low level toons in Dungeon Finder.
Anyway, I do hope that arenas get some love and attention in some form, and perhaps it’s something like a WoW based Arena lobby game that isn’t a leveling RPG that maybe does or doesn’t tie into your WoW Classic, Progression Classic, or Retail characters.
