What is going to happen with your arena points between seasons. Here’s what happened in Original TBC…
There was never a reset until WotLK prepatch (due to the arena bracket changing to 80).
The cap on Arena Points was 5,000 (tbc prepatch changed the cap to 10,000) and never decayed, both of which were very stockpile friendly.
Ideally in Original TBC you could save enough for the two handed weapon during season 2 and wait for the next season (s3), then push rating (1800) and get the weapon immediately.
Before the rating changes it was common for people to save arena points in S1 and spend them on S2 because the S1 weapons (outside of some offhands) weren’t even good for PvP in that season.
I’m asking this because with the sweeping changes upon PvP, I’m not sure what the goals really are anymore. I know that arena points are still gained at a low rate unless the brackets become inflated, which means stockpiling is a really good effect for people of all ratings…unless it changes.
TLDR - Arena has changed quite a bit, I want to know if arena points have not changed.
It was 5000 for clarity. It went up to 10,000 in season 5 so people could stockpile points if they didn’t have rating then if they did get it slam it on the gear.
Honestly, I imagine it’s going to be changed anyway because then PvE and PvP is going to be a game on saving points, zerging the rating (which will basically be for people who are good at pvp anyway) and having a weapon in the first week which puts them at a large advantage in PvE and PvP. Especially since this is just going to encourage gold based (or rmt based in a lot of cases) arena carrying at the start of seasons to get weapons day/week 1. Like for rogues your offhand weapon and in a lot of cases until a raid equivalent your main hand is the biggest upgrade possible. Season 2 being coupled with Tier 5 is going to mean get your weapon ASAP until an upgrade for a marginal dps increase due to stats comes along.
The only difference between this and blowing up the new raid in the first lockout is…PvE bias?
You forget that points can hardly even be stockpiled well enough without having rating. Especially if a team cannot sustain 0 —> 1750 for every single week of a 12+ week season.
Everyone keeps thinking that arena points are like honor points. Just afk and free epix.
Yes, sorry if you are not capable of seeing the trend but Blizzard has long since shafted PvP in favor of PvE beginning in about Season 3 when they first introduced personal rating. Blizzard is leaning hard into the World First racing, that’s why you have draenei and blood elves coming in the prepatch, or not the sole reason but a big part of it. They don’t want tier 4’s world first being dictated by “Well Horde had shamans faster for bloodlust.”
Depends how long a season goes. In season 3 I had a 5s team around 2000 rating when I got my shoulders. That was 1000 points a week I want to say. Since I decided to pull up a calculator for certainty, it was 1054 a week. Considering a 5s team can easily hit 2k in the first week for season 1 because it’ll be a weird zergfest of 2345 teams you’ll easily have that.
Let’s use 1600 for example, you can’t lose points until like 1550 anyway. 465, not that great but a 2v2 is 261, so almost double. 1750 is 683 a week which should be doable for brainlets because season 1 5s is literally who can kill 1-2 people faster. 2345’s strength comes from their zerg potential and it fails compared to Eurocomp in about season 3 due to gear preventing their burst pretty hard in the like 40 second lust window.
Let’s assume a team goes 5s and only gets 1500 and loses every game afterward. Over 12 weeks of just staying at that rating, never going higher. That’s 4.1k arena points. This is assuming it’s 12 weeks which is a bare minimum, Blizzard might slow down on content releases later on (especially with Black Temple to Sunwell)
Like regardless of how you want to personally try and slice it, this is a problem and a good one to curb. ESPECIALLY when you consider most top rated players are going to be doing 5s for the points and just use their 2s and 3s to sell boosts until end of season and push for Glad/R1. That gives them an insane advantage in the first week if they can carry over points beating up players until 1900 using weapons those players are not going to have.
This way at least gives people a chance to climb in 2s and 3s without being ran over by teams that in the first week have an absurd gear advantage (melee and weapons especially since rogues are dominant in 2s and 3s) for a month. 2200 is around what you’ll need in 5s to get a week 3 weapon with a reset. It’ll be easy to push day one to weapon/shoulders rating in 2s or 3s then buy the stuff and start boosting.
It’s even been that way in Season 1 and 2 when PvEers got their gear pieces in the first couple weeks where PvPers needed to do another rank 14 grind waiting up to 10-15 weeks for a 2 hander or bow/xbow/gun depending on their weekly rating gains.
Very very VERY few 5s teams broke 2k in TBC.
Only if the bracket magically bloated like crazy where “easy 2k 5v5 teams everywhere” be a thing. This isn’t BFA or something where duelists got 2700 rating and top teams were like 3400+.
The points you lose is determined by your MMR, not your team rating. If your opponent and your teams MMR was 2.2k and your team rating was 1700 you aren’t gonna lose any points either (but you lose some MMR).
You would need to assume that losing games does not cause your rating to go down. Which is does…like a rock…since your MMR is low.
In season 1 its not a problem.
In season 2 when gear was actually equivalent to raids that were not introductory, you could argue there needing to be a pvp metric.
This is going to exist in both systems. Even moreso in Blizzards new system. Instead of being boosted so they can afford their weapon without it being half way into the next season, they would get boosted for the rating and for points.
You keep assuming that arena items are gotten like honor gear where someone afks for a few hours a day and has a full set. STOP IT. Each and every individual piece takes a very long time to get unless you have a top team at the highest ratings. And even at the highest ratings you will not complete a full set of season 1 gear by the time season 1 ends unless the bracket is bloated AF.
I’m pretty sure on most battlegroups 2200 in 5s was impossible or Rank 1 in Vanilla TBC.
You really dont’ understand how arena points are gained do you? You gain arena points based on rating every WEEK not instantly throughout the day.
They will without a fraction of a doubt change this to the wotlk version. They clearly do NOT want pvp gear influencing pve at all, especially with the worthless changes they just did.
Arena season ends > you get honor according to how many points you have.
I would almost bet my bottom dollar this won’t get announced until mid to late season one. They could reply to it sooner, given we have actually gotten quite a few blue posts recently. But this is just what I can see happening.
