I think we can all agree that the game has become ultra fragmented in 2024 (classic, hardcore, sod, retail) and we could also agree that retail PVP is even further fragmented (solo shuffle, blitz, 2s, 3s, rbgs)
You’d still have a Solo Rating and 3s rating, but you’d combine the queues + game pool.
Hypothetical example:
- I’m a hunter, I’m queuing solo. I’m winning/losing → affects my solo rating.
- I queue into a Disc + Ret duo, we win the game + they like me! We start queuing 3s → affects my 3v3 rating.
- If you’re queuing as duo, your Solo rating would be affected, akin to League of Legends.
Typical lobby makeups:
- 3 solo players vs 3 solo players
- 3 solo players vs a 3s team
- Duo+1 vs Duo+1
- Duo+1 vs 3s team
What happens if 3 solo players beat a 3s team? More MMR + more points.
The whole idea behind combing the queues is to bring the community back together, start playing together, and to make arena feel active again. Solo queue would become “looking for group” in an abstract way. R1 players still have their Rank1, the pro-scene is unaffected, but the rest of us would have an active community.
At this point in time, Solo shuffle is an antisocial sub-game which often breeds toxicity.
