Arena feels fun?

No joke, I played today and it was most fun i’ve had… Got my 1600 and my team planning to play again added a new friend. Hoping to get my first glad. Idk why arena getting so much hate. I think all DF its overall improved more than ever, and this coming from a guy who gave wotlk and sod a good shot. I find the classic versions were fun for a bit, but going back in time if you will, imo the game has come a long way from those archaic times for pvp.

There are a lot of genuinely good elements to the game. I think the biggest drawback for most people is just the community unfortunately.

Time in queue?

Because the primary game mode is designed around Role Requirements that don’t match what Players are actually Playing?

I hope you make it to glad! Keep hammering!

Time in queue wouldn’t be an issue if people played 3v3. Shuffle is fun for what it is but I really think people would take the opportunity to participate in the bracket that gives gladiator if the lfg experience wasn’t worse than sitting a 45 minute shuffle queue because players are so toxic to one another. At least that’s kinda what I believe. Could be wrong but idk.

Participating in the bracket doesn’t get you glad.
Most people who play won’t get glad.
So its just a non starter to even consider that motivation

Take this with a grain of salt but leaving after a loss or two isn’t toxic, unless someone is flaming on the way out. Whoever leaves doesn’t jive with you or the team and that’s totally fine. Better they leave early rather than tank rating or damage mmr.

I’ve only had good experiences with LFG so far people wise. Can I play with everyone, or vice versa? No. Wish em the best and look for people that jive with you/team/playstyle.

On the flip I’ve had one shuffle lobby where someone didn’t leave or AFK out of something like 6-8 qs on 2 different characters. People logging to save MMR in solo/throwing/afk is wayyyyyyyyyy more toxic than someone leaving after a loss in reg 3’s.

This is a mindset not a skill issue.

Shuffle is great in the sense that I love that I can login and sit in queue while questing for gold. It facilitates me capping my vault while doing other in-game chores.

Shuffle is terrible because you’re forced to play with sociopathic raging weirdos that I tend to avoid in all aspects of my life.

luckily i have 2 sets of ppl to do 3s with, my brother and our IRL friend and then two friends i met in SL that both have like 4x of the same class so we can queue mains or alts to play. its good to have ppl to play with for the fun factor.

Probably should stay away from the forums then

The forums are Disney World compared to some of the messages and comments I’ve seen originate from Solo Shuffle. RSS is a collision of the movie Idiocracy and Mad Max. An unintelligent post apocalyptic wasteland where gasoline (rating) reigns supreme.

Dragonflight did alot of good for the game.

The PVP balancing, however, was not a part of that.

Arena genuinely is enjoyable. It had a bumpy start, but genuinely felt like it was in a great spot after the assa rogue nerfs. We were SO CLOSE with season 1 until the retpocalypse happened.

Actually it’s basic statistics and math.

Lol

I recognize that most people won’t get it but the fact that it’s there and you could theoretically improve to the point where you can achieve it is motivation. I never considered gladiator as a possibility for myself until recently because I’ve been playing the game for a while. Will I ever get it? Idk maybe not but I definitely won’t if I don’t play 3v3.

I mean maybe you see it that way, but to the guy who has been sitting in lfg for 35 minutes to group with you for one game and have you bounce, it is a driving force to push them away from the game. Whether you define it as toxic or not, it’s an unpleasant experience.

Exactly. And it’d be great as just that if people didn’t use it to replace 3v3. Unfortunately, they do because it’s preferable to the lfg experience for most players without buddies from prior to its introduction.

An unfortunate consequence of the player base getting so much better than they were 10-15 years ago, which damage-focused game design compounds, and shuffle desiccating the population doesn’t help either, is that solo carrying in threes is a lot harder than it used to be. It’s much more unlikely that a team who bothered to queue up 3s together will be bad enough to get bodied by one good outplay.

I say this is important because without that possibility, it’s pretty hard to see any point to some games. I could go into lfg right now and find a couple of players who will not enable me to beat a matchup that denies me agency, even if I spend two hours looking inward every loss. I can have fun losing twenty winnable games in a row, but it’s hard to enjoy games that just won’t reward my effort.

Sometimes it’s easier than others, but I think it’s useful to bear in mind that many group leavers are likely thinking “this has a low fun ceiling” more than “I’m mad cuz I lost twenty cr”.

So is being stuck with someone you don’t play well with because their playstyle is totally different, thus tanking your MMR/CR. It really is the lesser of two evils.
