Arena Carries - MMR - How to Fix What is Broken!

While blizzard strives to make the game more compatible with those that game casually, I find with the current state of arena being very challenging in the aspect of pushing rating. I desire to see new players being able to fit in and not be forever stuck at low rating that does not match their skill level. While this post is in no way aimed at making the spells easier or classes OP nor is this to talk how bad players are. This post is aimed for fixing exploits and those that break TOS in helping others getting their desired rating that they do not deserve for gold and real money.

I have hit Glad this season and wanted to share my experience on what I noticed. As soon as we surpassed 2k rating in 3v3 the MAJORITY of our games resulted in multi R1s carrying other classes and while we lost most of them I can imagine how frustrating the game can be for those that have never played arena before and now have a strong desire to gather a team to que. With the gear that is available in PvP and the hype of Shadowlands we have a players readily excited to hit that que button and enter a competitive state. However, what if the majority of those players knew that in order to play at a 2k mmr youd have be able to play at the 2.4mmr? They would be demanding change, and this is the state we are in.

The amount of carries, win trading, gold and money involved in these carries is not only unfair but is putting the game in a horrible state. Is it impossible for new players to hit glad? absolutely not. However, the hidden truth is that hitting Rival, Duelist, or Glad does not require the rival, duelist, glad skill but requires skill way above that. Why? Because the majority of your games will be carries or players that are in a way higher skill level, some will respond " I do not see carries" well if they are not playing their own account how would you know? - You wouldn’t.

Recently, there has been lots of light on the companies that are selling carries for gold and money. There are tons and tons of players who hope to get the opportunity to make WoW into a full time job by having casual players pay for carries. The ultimate dream job. . . at the cost of the entertainment of arenas.

How do we fix this - Allow achievements to be the foundation of MMR. While it doenst have to fully mimic but for example, if someone has a rank 1 from last season and they que their first game of the arena, their mmr should automatically be around 2700+. The mmr hasn’t been changed in forever and its time there is an update. If you hit glad last season and you que your first arena game the next season, your mmr is automatically at 2.4. While there are small details about cr in losses and wins that can easily be worked out, but the overall design will mimic other games that structed skill levels appropriately. Allowing players to que EQUAL to their skill level. Achievements should factor into mmr, and while it does not have to 100 percent match but use achievements as a foundation on how to set mmr. Without it, a combatant queing to get a spider mount and can easily que into 2 rank 1s carrying a combatant who paid 2 million gold for a spider mount carry. Players should not be able to lower their mmr by creating new toons, forming new groups, or purposely losing so they can carry who they like.

While this will not completely stop carries but will most certainly limit the abuse and allow the game to continue to being great. Players performing carries for gold and money will now have harder time by a simple change that not only favors new players but also favors players of every skill level.

People will just get glad again then purposely tank their rating for carries anyways doesn’t fix anything

how are you gauging this though?

blaming carries is more speculative than anything

you’re seeing more glad mounts and titles because they’re accountwide
you just weren’t seeing whos alt was who in the past

i’ve always played like 5 characters per season with other gladiators who are playing 5 characters per season and often we’re just messing around at 2k 2200 1800 or whatever on them

you’re not seeing an INSANE amount of carries in low 3v3

what does this have to do with anything?
in reality win trading doesn’t really even happen these days or at this point in the season

this is just a flat out exaggeration and excuse LMAO

i just qd about 40 games with my healers brand new priest between 1600-1800 in 2’s and ran into 1 other high gear/cr player playing with an undergeared alt

i have hundreds of games on 2 of my alts in 3s between 1800 and 2300 in 3s and i’ve never once ran into a carry

i mean i q into alts wearing 2400 glad titles often but more often than not they’re 2k on those alts for a reason and being a 2400 gladiator doesn’t make you better than the average 2k player on your alt

I see more carries than what your reply portrays and I have proof. I am currently unable to supply proof due to other reasonings. However, you are a current season glad so you being bias is much expected naturally. The amount of carries have grew in an upward trend in comparison to the past 5 seasons,

Again, a large sum of the carries involve other players playing the carried account. Therefore, regardless of achievement tracking you would not know this information.

Also, just a little heads up, for your replies to provide any type of meaning you may want to remind yourself we can see your past replies and post. Thanks for the reply,

Curious I know that a few websites track rating changes and recent partners. But is there in any way to have a season long version of this? Something like raider io does for m+, or does the api just not support it?

Never tried

I believe you, there will need to be a change. For sure,

Ive had 2 ideas that can solve carries.

  1. Fix M+ end of dungeon drop ilvl. Bring m10 or 11 end of dungeon drops equal to heroic raid ilvl as they have been in the past. This will knock off a vast majority of carry incentives right away.

  2. MMR locks. Lock a characters mmr at their achievement breakpoints. So if you are 1800 CR, your mmr will not drop below 1800, but your CR can, so if you try to carry someone, you have to 1v2 against other 1800 players instead of dunking on 1300 mmr folks.

Just my thoughts on the system, im far from a great player, just an 1800 rat, but this might help

I believe if you’re 1600 and upgrade all you’re gear to 213, you should not have a problem pushing to 1800 unless you’re just simply bad at the game.

Blizz countin’ the token income like “
broken?”

^thats a good idea dude

I think you make a great point! Sadly, unless the majority of player base sees this let alone agree
the mmr rating will never be fixed. I just want a fair mmr system so the game doesn’t die.

I love bad players mentality
