I’m tryna reroll fresh with a bunch of alts and I don’t really care about which is better for hardcore raid progression. I really just care about which is more active/friendly/talkative community-wise and which feels less dead.
I’ve narrowed it down to Thrall vs. Area 52 because I just came back to the game and I used to play on both and I know they’re both fairly high pop. And yeah, I’ve already hung out in Org/trade chat for a bit to get a feel for them these days but I’d like some personal recommendations too before taking the plunge.
Any recommendations are appreciated! TY in advance!

Play moon guard. Goldshire is always heavily populated with …friendly people

Area 52?
Friendly?
never thought i’d see those two words in the same sentence…
specially since its full of non-moon-guard folks populating the tavern.

I’m only about 4 months on A52, but it’s been pretty friendly so far. The biggest flaw here would be the trade spam, but you quickly learn to just live with it. Haven’t encountered any jerks or rude players on server, but have seen a few in LFG that were difficult to play with.
As for Thrall, I’m told the community is really good. Nice size population, far less meme kids and no chinese spam like Illidan.

I have characters on both A52 and Thrall, although only have Horde characters on A52 but have both A and H on Thrall.
I can honestly say that I’ve found friendlier ppl on Thrall on both sides than on A52.
Maybe I’m just missing “peak time” for the friendlier of folk to appear on A52 though. lol
I mean shoot, my main here is on Stormrage US of all places…friendliness isn’t on my top 5 nor do I promote anyone to come here. lol
Ive heard Stormrage is pretty good for Alliance players. As for A52, most of my experience with Horde from that server has been rather toxic.

Good and friendly are two different things. lol
Don’t get me wrong, there are nice ppl here, just like on every server, but SR got it’s rep for being the largest Alliance US server, not the friendliest. lol
As for A52, I’m in 100% agreement with you.
Just Friday night I went into Goldshire Inn on my Moon Guard alt and it was actually completely empty somehow.
Since late 2017 I’ve been on Thrall off and on mostly Horde toons (population is 90%+ Horde if memory serves me). I’ve met good and friendly people there. I recently restarted my horde toons there and no complaints.
Trade chat seems more tame than some of the other server’s spam.
I started in legion. My first server was thrall but I switched to area 52 when I finally decided to level.
I am yet to find a mean person from area52 but there are plenty of nice people!
For my hunter on thrall, it has been almost identical experience. I do get spammed with guild invites though.
I think both servers are good choices and I would have a hard time choosing as well.
If I had to choose one, it would be area52 because I feel like its slightly more active overall but I get very similar vibes from both of them.

Every server is a dead server, until 8.2, I’d wait until then when they start promoting the hell out of it to get players to return.
Um, aren’t those Horde heavy realms? You’re posting on an Alliance toon so I’m guessing you’re after an Alliance heavy realm? Go Stormrage or Sargeras not sure if they are non-English heavy. Some players don’t like foreign text in chat.
If you’re going for Horde heavy then Area 52 has a higher pop. Not sure as far as PvP goes but I thought Area 52 was more PvP oriented. But since Blizz did away with PvP servers and there is phasing with other realms not sure. I’m on Thrall so you might want to avoid me.
But I enjoy Thrall quite a bit and it’s English speaking.

id go Area 52.
I just leveled a warrior there ( horde) and found a leveling guild very fast and we started running 5mans as a guild.
Every one was returning players and we all got along very well.

In my experience I’m on A52 Horde. Proudmoore for my alliance. A52 is not bad general chat can go left or right same with proudmoore both are fairly active and nice if your not a dick. I’m also in Toast they have a bunch of raid prog teams and casuals.
Also realm has other guilds that are very active. Same with proudmoore. Although proudmoore is more LGBT but their is also straight allies too. Most trade chats can go different ways
I would look for active friendly guilds search by numbers before joining and try out. Never hurts. Never been in Thrall. Illidan is full of Chinese but there’s an add on for it.

I’ve never played on Thrall so Idk about that but Area 52 was and is still a very busy server, lot of raiding, etc…
It’s fun, I like it. Can always create a toon on each and see for yourself.
