I hadn’t really planned on playing Classic that much, but I’m in the beta so I gave it a shot and oh my god I did not expect at all to enjoy it this much, especially because I never played Vanilla when it was relevant (started playing late BC).
I have always stayed up to date on WoW news even when I wasn’t actually playing the game anymore and taking a break. Now I check WoW news sites and just completely scroll past any current game news right to Classic news. I have felt so little enthusiasm for the current game ever since I played Classic. Even when I was really disappointed with BfA I still had some level of enthusiasm for the game because I just really really love WoW and always have for over a decade.
I’m not really sure what the current game devs could do to draw me back in at this point because Classic is just so good and miles ahead in terms of enjoyment for me, and the current game is just so different, that I just don’t see how they could make such drastic changes to draw my attention back to the current game.
Are you still paying attention to or playing current WoW? Or has Classic WoW totally killed your enthusiasm for it like me?
I usually watch the cinematics they put out to see how the story is going.
I don’t follow any of the changes they’re doing for the most part. I might see a few things as I check mmo champion for Classic updates, but that’s it.
When they first announced classic, I thought I’d hardly play it and stick with retail. Once beta streams started happening, I did a 180 and now think retail seems awful (I was getting pretty bored when my guild was mythic raiding and trying to get the achievement of +15 keys in time).
I haven’t logged on retail in about 2-3 days, and when I do, it’s “oh what should I do?” and I don’t want to do anything and then log off.
I don’t think 8.2 is going to fix that either. Sure, might have stuff to do for like 1 or 2 weeks, but I’m so much more excited for Classic than anything retail has to offer, and it’s sad.
Yeah that’s pretty much exactly where I’m at now, too. I watch the cinematics, briefly peer over some changes but mostly just go “meh whatever” and scroll right past them for Classic news.
you know, if you stick to normal-mode dungeon and never try anything remotely challenging, spending most of your time farming random trash mob to farm gold… you can get the classic experience on live too?
Yeah none of the changes I’ve seen impress me. The problem with the modern game is that the core gameplay is no longer fun to me so it doesn’t really matter if they add new raids, dungeons, quest hubs, or balance abilities at all.
The problems I have with BfA fall under what Blizzard would say “we’ll fix it in the next expansion”. Though, I also don’t have much hope for that either given how they’ve been going for a while now =P
I requested and received a full refund for BFA 3 days before launch.
I bought the last few expansions, but I mostly just leveled to cap and then quit pretty quick, or just screwed around with alts, but I never played in any serious capacity.
I wasn’t going to pay for BFA because I knew this would be the case again.
I am very indecisive about what class and race I want to play, so I’ve spent a lot of my time just doing the same starting zones over and over again. I totally thought that I’m crazy and I’d just get burnt out on the game doing that, but legitimately it hasn’t happened yet and it doesn’t seem like it ever will.
When I played in BC I was just as indecisive and did the starting zones a lot over and over again, too. I never got sick of them either. In BfA I had a hard time playing any alt at all, the leveling process in every zone is just awful, especially because the class design is so awful and you get so little abilities.
Maybe I will get burnt out, who knows.
I am 100% sure I will never play the modern game again though unless they make some serious drastic changes, especially to leveling and class design. And I just don’t see how they’d manage to do that without people getting really mad about it. So it seems super unlikely.
I would hope that it will take more than 6 months for them to go through the content phases.
Though if I want a new experience I’ll just roll alts. If I get burnt out on WoW as a whole after a long time, then I’ll just go back to what I’m doing now which is playing other games.
With Classic around, the only way I’d get back into modern WoW would require they overhaul a lot of things in the game.
Yeah… I’m sure you are going to do starting zone content for 6 months.
I’ve seen people on private servers play all day every day to farm their pre-bis and once they get to the raid log’ing point where you raid and there is nothing else to do they go from playing all day to never log’ing in again.
I’ve seen it over and over and over and it will happen to most people (almost everyone) like you.
since , i’d say around the end of wraith I have stopped in once an xpac to play it through and do all the content. It’s crazy easy the last month of an xpac. So once a xpac , i check it out for a month or two.
BFA, i just couldn’t get into an I am struggling to even level. I blame classic launch for my lack of interest this xpac. I resubbed and unsubbed in the same day.
Still playing current WoW, though mostly just logging in for raids.
My character outgears the rest of the content so there isn’t much else to do until the next major content patch comes out. Hopefully soon. Once that hits I expect my Retail gaming will ramp way up as I work through the new content.
it’s almost as if we have a well documented history of people only logging in on reset day to clear the raid after the first few week on an expac /content patch!
and it’s almost as if all the classic zealot are blind to it.
