Ever since Classic came out I basically switched over to Classic exclusively, but i’d like to start Retail again. For me, I really like the pace of classic, but at the same time I like how everything is faster paced in BFA. It’s like the yin and yang, I need both of them to feel like the complete WoW experience.
I play retail exclusively. I wish that retail leveling was more like classic with respect to the danger in the world, some of the RP elements (definitely not all), and the absence of heirlooms… but those benefits are not worth the myriad drawbacks that classic has at all.
Hopefully the retail team learns from the success of classic because I’m definitely not going back to vanilla for those few benefits.
It is up to your mental health and time disposition. Both versions are very time consuming.
Retail. I don’t do dungeons because I don’t want to wait in line… I’m definitely not going to wait in line just to play period.
Retail. Been there done that for classic. it’s simply not my cup of tea.
Both but BfA more than Classic. I really didn’t want to play Classic that much (maybe a little) but my husband is all excited about it. So I play with him but if he’s not online I’m not logging in that side.
I’m bouncing between both. I find both got their good points but also bad points. But hey /shrugs/ I’m having fun either way.
Easy solution to this…
I play both, but mainly retail.
I only play Classic just to be more casual. (And I don’t mean barrens chat)
Leaning back to retail only.
I gave classic a fair shake. It has some interesting things I did like. But…not enough to deal with what is not liked.
Well that and classic lacks things I need. Like allied races. Many of my chars are allied. or later classes (DK and DH) not there either.
I’m kinda burned out on end game atm. It seems the gearing cycle is too fast, By the time I’m geared the new cycle is already out and I have to re-gear.
I’m just kinda re-focusing on a new baby alt atm. I pick up lots of old neat stuff with her.
I have determined that gear is temporary, but transmog is forever
Retail only here! I love flying, progression and QoL
I’m not sure leveling can be the same in retail when the game has 15 years worth of content to explore and 120 levels. Perhaps they can work on making “current expansion” leveling always similar in style, but that’s even hard to balance when some people are entering with heroic level gear from the last expansion and some are entering fresh/new.
I actually find the “RP” elements a bit better in current WoW, but some people choose to breeze through them. Each zone has a consistent, zone-wide story to play through and each expansion has a unifying narrative. I will admit, though, that the gameplay in Classic feels a bit more immersive, but it’s a double edged sword. Having to run everywhere makes you take everything in a bit more, but it’s so strange when you pair it with the fury that GD showed when flying was gated behind Pathfinder.
Community, I’m not sure what to think. A bunch of my friends came back to play Classic, so it’s nice to have the group again. Outside of that, though, it reminds me a lot of an anecdote my dad always told me. He used to talk about playing with the neighborhood kids when he was younger. They played outside all the time because of proximity and no other options more than they were actually close friends of some kind. Granted that doesn’t hold true for everyone, but I find that people talk about community in Classic, but it feels similar. Sure, I group up more for quests, but they still leave immediately afterwards and I may never see them again.
I like Classic, but as its own thing. I think it’s fun for its own reasons. I like the slower pace, and I’m glad my old guildmates are back. I do prefer retail though. Either way, I’ll be playing both and probably be having fun with both
As far as I’m concerned, Classic doesn’t exist.
I see zero reason to subject myself to an inferior product, that is 15 years old, when I’ve no desire to do so.
Sure there are older games I would enjoy playing, but Vanilla wow is -not- one of them.
I personally hope Retail leveling -never- becomes like Classic Leveling is.
Would be a massive tedious time sink just to get to max level, and probably stop me from ever leveling an alt ever again.
I play classic if I REALLY wanna kill time, I play retail if i need to get some things done real quick.
I’m staying retail and really don’t have plans on trying Classic. I was thinking of dipping my toes into Classic and just trying it but the barrage of Retail hate the classic players have been posting here has given me a second opinion on that and won’t bother now.
Just retail. I already lived through real vanilla and don’t need classic to remind me of those times, I have my memories. Glad some people are getting the chance they never had before, but I won’t be participating unless I am really bored. 8.2 has reenergized me and I am enjoying it. I hope both sides learn not everyone needs to do the same thing. Retail stays retail, classic stays classic.
I’m playin’ Classic exclusively. I’m givin’ Blizzard one last chance at this year’s BlizzCon to convince me Retail is worth my time.
Classic will end as soon as everyone maxes out and realize they can not go any further. Then Classic will go into a alt/twink phase and die down. It will just go to players that where happy in that era and the rest will move on.
As bad as retail is it has hope. It can change and move forward. That is why I will just level the slow way in retail and pick a zone I forgot about and re-live the quests for a while.
