Great… so if you thought you wiped before in pugs wait till people start using controllers…
For leveling maybe but if people start using controllers in mythic and raids they will be insta kicked. There is no way someone can use a controller and be able to heal dispell interrupt specific targets
i can see PvE it can do alright if you know how to use the controller to do your rotation efficiently. PvP however uses most of your spellbook which doesn’t really fit the 14 buttons on standard console controllers.
FF’s gcd has nothing to do with controller usage.
Well, the problem was it was designed with PS3 in mind because they “promised” it, if it wasn’t for that the zones could have been a lot better.
I play wow exclusively with a Guitar Hero controller.

if ffxiv can have gamepad support, with more abilities, with abilities off gcd, then current wow is surely can handle a gamepad

Console support added soon? Would love to play WoW on a ps4 pro in my living room
I guess I misunderstood/misread. Thanks for clearing that up!
Can you clarify? Does this mean we still need an addon for controller support or will we able to use controller without an addon, just that it’d be basic support for movement/keybind/camera without being a full interface support (including menu navigation) like in FFXIV.
Even if it’s basic support, it would be appreciated as long as we don’t need to install any addon to get it.
Also, if we’re getting any support without addon, please allow the simultaneous use of controller and keyboard and mouse so we can use them interchangeably or at the same time.
I have a keyboard. Why would I use a gamepad?

Oh I agree and it’s not a bad game, it just always annoyed me when I traveled for what felt like a minute or two then ran into a loading screen. Now that I have a ssd it may not be as much of an issue.
Sure as a DH you only have 3 buttons to hit anyway. Good luck with trying it on a mage setting up combustion though…
easy access to 40+ keybinds, think i’ll manage lol
I leveled a Pandaren BM Hunter from 1 to 120 with a PS4 Controller. I also
played through the ENTIRE Legion questing experience on my MAIN Enhancement Shaman. I’m also currently leveling a Fury Warrior, currently at Level 60.
It took me a good 2 or 3 hours to make sure everything was set up the way I liked it, but once I did, I enjoyed myself.
There’s something quite relaxing about moving through the leveling experience while I lean back in my chair instead of leaning forward over my keyboard.
Here are some of my takeaways from playing with a controller for an extended period of time:
-
It’s possible to quick-bind about 35 buttons on the PS4 controller for quick access. 8 face buttons (Up, Down, Left, Right, Square, Circle, X, Triangle) plus R2 makes 9 buttons to bind abilities on. Times 3 modifiers (L1, L2, and L1+L2). These are quick-access buttons that can be hit in the middle of combat.
-
There’s a nice little command wheel that can be brought up outside of combat for things like professions, mounts, consumables, hearthstones.
-
Of course, Macros can be used to consolidate a lot of offensive cooldowns to reduce the number of keybindings.
-
Ranged Characters can be an issue until you use a macro to combine a ClearTarget/TargetEnemy command with your opening spell. Then it becomes much easier.
-
The clunkiest part at first was interacting with clickable objects in the environment. Every other part of the combat was 100% satisfactory.
-
This worked perfectly find for normal Dungeons. I imagine it’d be fine for LFR as well, though I didn’t try that.
-
In Random BGs, I was even able to keep up with other Melee classes, dance around them, and reliably take them down on my Enhancement Shaman. That being said, Enhancement was pretty powerful in Legion.
-
Heroic Instances or Raids are absolutely too complex to handle without a more expensive controller that includes paddles on the back. Being able to keep both of your thumbs on the joysticks to maneuver around boss mechanics is vitally important, and without the paddles on the back, you’d need to pull your thumb off of the Right Joystick any time you wanted to use your face-buttons.
-
I was able to solve the problem of targeted AoEs by using the @cursor modifier in macros. I’m certain there are a lot of issues that can be solved with Macros.
I enjoyed myself quite a bit. I’d be thrilled to see Blizzard introduce the game to consoles. I have quite a few friends who have always been interested in WoW that just aren’t willing to put up with the headaches of PC gaming.

I have REALLY bad Hand/Eye coordination. Using the keyboard is muscle memory. I may try it, just to see if I can get the hang of it. But yeah… probably keyboard for me.

I’ve always argued things like GCD, spell pruning, action cam etc. were done with the intent of setting WoW up for console port.

Pretty much since i’ve actually talked to people first hand about it, This change i think is more focused for the people w/ disabilities and unable to perform their best on mouse/keyboard. Still remember chatting with this one guy in Tanaan jungle one day and he never messaged back, then finally he did and said sorry his controller was down, he had gotten in a trucking accident and somehow sync’d a controller to play wow
This actually sounds exciting. If it actually happens, then hope the controller support is macro compatible. Cause the ConsolePort isn’t.
Either that or i put them in wrong.
While i’l be playing WoW with mouse and keyboard, i will give Shadowlands a try with a controller at some point, and i certainly wouldn’t object an official support for it. Infact, this is my wish, even though objectively speaking, controllers are holy inaccurate compared to mouse and keyboard.
