Are weak auras a requirement nowadays?

I really dislike WAs. Ripped my hair out trying to figure out that damned addon, and I just gave up on trying to use it. But since I refuse to use it I’ve accepted that I probably won’t get into a decent guild or do anything higher than follower dungeons and LFR.

Am I wrong in my assessment? Tell me truthfully.

If you want to join any Guild that is serious about raiding, yes you need to accept WA into your heart.

Outside of Mythic Raiding I wouldn’t say it’s a big deal.

If you’re just wanting WA to help display buffs/debuffs etc then you could use TellMeWhen. It’s a lighter weight alternative.

If your goal is to be a high end raider pushing CE or nearabouts? Yes.

Blizzard have reduced the “weakaura” fights compared to Dragonflight, but there’s no reason to think they’re gone forever, since Broodtwister exists and it’s a fight where ONE person not having the right aura messes up the entire fight for everyone else.

Outside that? No. Though I’m struggling to think on what you’re struggling with on WeakAuras, you don’t need to be able to make anything, the strength of the addon is that you can just copy the auras from the turbonerds who actually make them.

The only thing “required” is that you play well.

It all depends on what your goals are.

I’ve heard this too, but an issue is that those weakauras are made for the people who made them, not necessarily for me. Then I break them trying to adjust them to my needs. It’s just a really depressing time all around.

Depends on what you want the WA to do.

I speak mainly about those big comprehensive class weakauras.

Sure. but my question remains.

There is rarely anything for your standard stuff someone hasnt already made. So I would be genuinely curious how a WA already created is not giving you the information you want. If you didnt want the entire class package, you just copy/paste the specific spell out.

It’s only really a requirement for Mythic raiding or keys well past +12.

Its hard to describe. But the weakaura I tried for mage basically got in the way, then I broke it trying to make it…not in the way.

That addon just makes me cry in all honesty and I wish it wasnt necessary.

Are you trying to be a CE raider?

Id like to just get AotCs and eventually a m+ mount once in my life.

Then WA is not necessary.

Oh you don’t need any of those. They’re nice, but the only auras you absolutely need tend to not require much tinkering.

Like I mentioned a Broodtwister Weakaura above, what it did is mark people so they could go to the preassigned eggs. Because it didn’t play nice with DBM/Bigwigs, you had to disable that for the fight so the weakaura also fulfilled that function. No changing necessary.

Is that certain? I feel like a lot of folks would say “sure you don’t need WA to join a guild, just don’t think about trying to join MY guild lmao”. Repeat ad nauseum for just about every worthwhile guild to the point where im only really worthy of joining a random invite do-nothing guild.

Absolutely.

If you can be productive enough without WAs, no one cares. If the only WAs you are worried about are UI ones, no one cares.

The guilds that require WAs are typically doing harder content, and are sharing fight specific WAs. Not class based ones for your UI.

I would probably need constant coaching every time i tried to install even the most basic ones. Doubt anyone would want to do that. And if i ran into a situation where id have to figure out why it didnt play nice with another addon I’d crumple over even more. Its just a headache all around.

Honestly, you are probably over thinking it. Premade WAs are extremely easy to pop in, and rarely ever have issues with other add ons within the context of raids/m+.

I’ll echo what Akston is saying. I run with an AotC guild and we haven’t enforced WA since the Dreadlords boss from Shadowlands. Blizzard seems to have gotten into the habit of designing bosses such that it’s not necessary and so long as that continues to be the case then no one will care if you have it or not.

It may be personally useful for managing your cooldowns and rotation, but so long as whatever method you settle on works for you it doesn’t matter. The tool should work for you, not the other way around. It doesn’t need to be WA specifically and I know plenty of players who don’t even use it for that purpose.

Never underestimate my ability to screw even basic things up, lol.

Im probably the reason Blizz gives you the option to skip puzzle quests nowadays.
