Sure we’ve saved azeroth from some bad things, but we’ve also murdered thousands of people along the way
Some of them simply because we wanted something they had, like money, or items
Are we really heroes? Or just psychotic murderers that like to kill things?

No. We’re mercenaries. And if we are heroes… we’re really really dumb heroes that get manipulated all the time into killing good people and then chasing after the person that manipulated us. Happens at least a half dozen times.
We’re more of heroes of capitalism driven to genocide and murder for some quick change, exploiting vast resources of plants, minerals, fish, to profit from the war between the alliance and the horde which is also doing a number to the population and environment.

I’m a stainless hero of the Holy Light in much the same way that General Sir Harry Paget Flashman was a stalwart Victorian soldier.

The player characters aren’t heroes, and shouldn’t be treated like it either. They should be treated like soldiers who, in their free time, do morally questionable things.

My headcanon says ‘hero’ and ‘champion’ are the polite form of mercenary (like calling a stripteaser a ‘dancer’ or ‘artist’ instead of a stripper).
