They’re literally a sisterhood of women who banded together to take back their ancestral land from a group of colonizers. Like, why are they the bad guys again? Am I not supposed to be rooting for the Coven???
Drustvar should belong to the Drust, they were there first.

You’re supposed to be gaining the favor of the Proudmoores, so that you have the support of their navy for the Fourth War.
They just happen to be the colonizers in question, but who cares when there are Trolls waiting to be squashed?

In case you couldn’t tell the difference, they turned them all into cartoon character cackling hags.

It just feels pretty weird that you go through the zone and the story is like “yeah man these Drust and witches are so evil, we’re the good guys we gotta fight these evil guys”. Then you find out they were there first, and the Waycrest are freaking colonizers who took over the Drust’s land, and they were just fighting back against the Waycrests stealing their land. And the story clearly plays it up like I’m supposed to be helping the “good” guys but… nah, none of these people have good reasons for what they’re doing and the Drust and witches are clearly 100% justified in defending their homeland. It’s just weird.

I root for them because they want to KILL ALL HUMANS!
In the story they were forced to turn to dark magic as a last resort to defend their homeland. They never would have bothered if the Waycrests didn’t try to steal their land.
The witches are as native to Drustvar as the humans who colonised it.
They were human but became witches under the influence of Lady Meredith Waycrest who was deceived by the Drust into becoming a witch when trying to save her husband.
(She wasn’t a good person by any means for anyone who has done the plot).

I am under the impression the witches are just pawns of Gorak Tul, as the original Drust were a variation of Vyrkul. And the witches are way too small to be Vrykul.

Slightly off topic but Eitrigg being afraid of witches is hilarious.

That’s correct. They’re the product of the pact made by Lady Waycrest to Gorak Tul to save her husband.

Turning to dark magic does not automatically turn one into a cackling old cartoon character hag. I don’t think I’ve seen a single warlock with an appearance like that, yet every warlock practices dark magic.

Either way, it’s very clear the root of the entire problem here is the humans who colonized Drustvar and stole land from the Drust. They never would have turned to dark magics to defend their homeland if they were just left alone to live out their lives peacefully on their homeland. I’m not even sure how I’m supposed to feel justified in helping the Waycrests/humans in Drustvar when clearly the Drust are justified in whatever they’re doing to win back their homeland.
At one point it’s even played up with “Some of the Drust didn’t want to fight and just wanted to exist peacefully with the human colonizers and land stealers but the other ones wouldn’t listen!”. And it’s like yeah, no duh.

It felt a little hypocritical any time I played through that story on a warlock, DK or shadow priest.
IIRC, from my various playthroughs of Drustvar, the Kul Tirans actually tried to be diplomatic when they tried to first settle in what we now refer to Kul Tiras, Gorak Tul just wanted to Murder Death Kill. Kinda hard to be nice to the Drust when the Drust are trying to rip out your throats at every turn.

If Russia just showed up in Alaska and were like “this is our land now”, and some Americans were like “it’s fine guys let’s just exist peacefully with these Russians who took our land”, would you think that’s fine? Do you think other Americans would think that’s fine? Or American leaders?
Legendary. The one solace I take in life and can’t wait for companies to understand. Twitter isn’t real life and no one outside of blue check marks care.
Pretty sure they aren’t doing it of their own free will. Pretty sure it’s the guy controlling them and the undead. So I’d say they deserve pity more than anything.
There were two types - Gorak Tuls people who wanted to kill the Kul Tirans and the Thornspeakers who wanted peace.
The human presence in Kul Tiras was no threat, so it makes sense that they would retaliate to Gorak Tul’s advancements.
Kul Tirans today are a mix of human and Thornspeaker so you’ve got nothing to worry about - they have just as much as a heritage to the land.
