Blizzard has killed off everyone, and has made little to no effort in filling those gaps.
Malfurion has the advantage in areas of strong nature magic and woods. sylvanas is a master marksman and huntress as well as magic user* . but keep this in mind sylvanas’s magic is necromantic in nature so places like that also give her a boost like DH and warlocks are more powerful in certin envirements. malfurion in a fel based envirement is weaker than illidan in a fel based area. and illidan is weaker than him. also the interesting thing about the magic sylvanas and malfurion are oposites aligned in the cosmic forces and as such are equal in power as void and light oposites. plus nature and life magic is inheritly connected to death and the shadowlands ardenwald is an example at least what we have been told. sylvanas didn’t start gaining so much power until mid to late BFA the devs came out and said death broke early on in Legion. everything requires context and more and more we are being shown it.

sylvanas destroyed the whole lich queen idea as we know it when she broke the helm.
