Perhaps one of the most immersive elements of the vanilla world is the weather effects. I can imagine this is a technically dicey area to re-implement on the newer engine but I think it’s worth twice its weight in gold. I’ve been trying to find information on this all over the internet to no avail.
Also, bring back the old night time. When it actually felt like night and it was dark and The Barrens and Elwyn Forrest were actually creepy to walk through.
Back before Cata, I believe, the night time in zones was very dark. The torches on paths actually made a difference. I remember stealthing near Darkshire to do some ganking and it being really dark. Tanaris was awesome at night as well. Back in BC, there were actually constellations in the sky because it was so dark. When they upgraded the graphics engine the first time, they basically did away with this feature. they were supposed to bring it back, but it was never the same.
Weird…it wasn’t in vanilla was it? I’m remembering something about weather effects being added now that I think on it - but not sure when that was, or if I’m even remembering correctly.
The night time affects were definitely in Vanilla, as well as BC. WotLK, I can’t remember. I’m sure there is a thread somewhere on it though we could look at.
The nights were quite bright in Vanilla compared to most RPGs, but there was a period later where you could barely tell the difference by the terrain whether it was day or night. But it was always very easy to find your way whether there were light sources or not.
Well, unless you had some uncommonly low gamma or brightness settings on your system, that is.
The nights in Vanilla are practically the same as they are in BfA, some zones are slightly darker and some are slightly brighter. If you want the nights to be noticeably darker than they are on BfA, you’re asking for a change.

Here’s a video posted 12 years ago that contradicts your claims:
If you want the game to be significantly darker at night, I’m okay with that. However, to claim that Vanilla had these extremely dark nights that put BfA to shame is disingenuous.
I never said Vanilla had extremely dark nights. I said they were darker, which the picture I posted proves. What’s disingenuous is you picking certain words I used, putting them together to form a new sentence, and acting like it was a statement I made so you can attempt to disprove it. I said I wanted the original; nights. That’s all.
