Nope. They’re on a completely different region and realm list.

Imagine if someone could transfer a few million gold from retail to classic. They could screw up the economy and do all kinds of things. Buy out the whole auction house, and set prices on say, copper bars for 20g for 20. Currently they go for about 15 silver on my realm for 20.

There just isn’t as much money floating around in classic compared to retail. Which is why items have such low prices compared to retail.

I know what you’re thinking though. If you could do it, then you could have an instant epic mount, pay for all your skills without farming, etc. However, in classic, there’s no such thing as winning the million dollar lottery. You have to work hard for your gold, and you have to be careful what you spend it on, because 900g for a mount is a very large sum of money. Not like retail where 900g is pocket change.

It just sounds like cheating. Classic was meant to be a clean slate for everyone. You basically start with nothing, and you work your way up. Like starting fresh on a new server with a new character, on a new WoW account. In retail, a new character could be mailed millions of gold by their main, and now they’re set for life. They don’t have to farm any money, they don’t need to learn a gold producing profession, they don’t have to do anything, because they won the lottery.

in runescape 3 you can swap gold to oldschool, wondering if wow has the same thing

I saw a thread about this like a week or two ago and the person claimed a GM ok’d it… but you can easily be scammed out of money so it wouldn’t work well. It’s only against the rules when out of game currency is involved

you can trade with other players, no rules against it

you cant just send gold from bfa to classic though, you would have to find someone that wants to make that trade

I don’t believe it is against the rules, but bear in mind that even if Blizzard won’t suspend you for it they do not “support” such transactions and they will not help you if someone tries to scam you.

you could also buy a token and use the gold from that to trade for classic gold

not sure how much you would get though, gold is pretty devalued in bfa

If I had a lot of resources in retail I would use them to buy time tokens that work for classic, too. As it is, my retail stuff was such a tangled mess that I just deleted everything a few weeks ago.

Someone asked Blizzard support and they said yes, you are allowed to give people gold on Retail for gold on Classic, or vise versa. However, do so at your own risk as they will not help you if you get scammed.

It is a legitimate question. I gave my friend a WoW token on live in exchange for gold on Classic. Blizzard said this is allowed.

Blizzard, I need to send 9 million gold from my retail characters to my classic ones.

Is it really possible to have 9m gold in Retail???

You can search the forums for some relevant posts, if you’re so inclined as to do so. We had a conversation about this a month or so ago, and someone claimed to have spoken to customer service, and even included a screenshot of their conversation.

Basically, the idea was that they wanted to trade WoW Classic gold in game to another player, for WoW gold that they would then use to purchase a game token.

There apparently wasn’t anything that violated the EULA in that scenario.

Usually the exchange rate is 1 gold classic for every 1000 gold retail. So say you trade 25000 gold to someone on a retail server, they should then give you 25 gold on classic. The retail trade always goes 1st because moving money around in retail is easier. I hope this helps.

Why would you want to stoop to that lameness, OP?

WHY are you even asking this?

“Can I take money from an established account with hundreds of hours played and where gold is plentiful and trade if for a gold in a different game at some kind of exchange rate, thus destroying the economies of both?”

Plus, they’re different games. No, seriously, they are. I don’t even see why anyone would tie the two together. Classic and Retail are as close to “the same game” as Retail and Diablo III.

Electroshock therapy needs to make a comeback.

Yes.

There was someone who posted his response from customer service saying it is okay last week.

Using different characters in different games and gifting things with some sort of pre-arranged exchange rate isn’t illegal in any game. There is no way to tell the difference between that kind of trade and plain gifting.

You could do the same thing with Classic and Everquest. 100g in Classic for 10k platinum in EQ.

But no, you will not see an officially-sanctioned method to do this. Not going to happen. Someone, at some point, has to earn that money you trade for, Blizzard is not going to just open a cash exchange for you.

Someone reported on the forums that a gm told them it was ok to trade gold in retail for gold in classic. Take it for what it’s worth!
