Last night was the first time I played without an Arms on my team and it actually went great. I made group as a 1600+ CR, we won 4 in a row starting around 1800 MMR and got up to 2100 MMR game which we lost. Our comp was:
Ret
FDK
Rogue
Boomie
Mage
Enh Sham
Disc
Hpal
Mistweaver
G-Druid
In hindsight I probably wouldn’t take the enhance again but it did make me realize that I’ve been too picky with team comp and now being only 1706 CR pushing to 1800, I probably will loosen up the reigns when picking classes.
Any suggestions or tips for future? I always thought having a warrior was VITAL.
I’m no expert, but I would have replaced the Enh Shaman with a Lock or Spriest there. Mistweaver is also a ballsy move, as opposed to a 2nd Priest or even a Shaman.
But no, you don’t have to have anything. People who know their class are always going to perform better than people who don’t. Only issue is it’s hard to know who does and doesn’t when pugging, so picking meta classes are safer bets.

Mistweaver sucks get rid of the dead weight.
Totally feel you, I’m not sure why I took the MW I think I wanted to test out their mobility as a flex healer. Also I thought the Sham was Ele, I didn’t inspect him before game that is definitely my fault lol. I like Ele for the team fight burst but in hindsight I prolly would take a Lock or second Boomie…
I just thought it was crucial to have a warrior. Since I form my groups I just always account for 3 spots already being taken as DPS (Me, Rogue, Arms) kind of free’s me up a bit now, although I still think I’d take arms most games
I only played with one good MW this expansion and he was a Hero player and sounded like he needed to play with 3 x the effort
Any other MW you playing with are deadweight / huge gamble
warriors are ideal for Sharpening
im not a fan of mages/spriests they are quite optional - mages are better in solo, and arena - Boomy is generally better than them in any situation - just stack them
Yeah lesson learned forsure, I’m seeing teams running 3x Boomie now more and more so I’m definitely considering just going full out with the Boomies.
Ret/FDK/Rogue/Arms/Boomie/Boomie might be what I’m looking at later… or sub Arms out for a Lock or Third Boomie
The short answer is no. A warrior, especially a Kyrian one, is straight lethal and great as the shotcaller in a melee focused group as that group comp focuses far more on putting unhealable damage on a single target (or a few if cleaving is possible), killing them, then repeating. The MS/Excute/Turbo Ursols is vital for that.
But in a far more caster focused group (these tend to be rot) the idea is just have unhealable damage over everyone, and eventually someone will be picked off. A warrior can work in this comp if they are good, but a lone warrior is going to be a very easy target to isolate and kill. If this is the plan subbing a Lock, Boomy or Spriest is perfectly acceptable and honestly probably stronger.
The only real mandatory slots (from a DPS side) is really just the one Rogue. A sole warlock is strong in any comp as well, in melee they serve basically as a mass snare while range they are good in the Rot. The other 4 slots determine what kind of comp you are going for.
