If you are having issues embedding GIFs from giphy.com then it’s likely because the auto-embedding is again broke from some/many of the images from there. I’m going to re-post something that can help explain what to do if you want to post images from giphy or other places that are not correctly auto-embedding. I originally posted this in another thread that’s since been 404d so I can’t directly link to it now:
As for why embedding GIFs from giphy doesn’t work, I reported the issue in the Website Bug Report sub-forum about 2 months ago (4 months ago at this point) because the forum isn’t properly embedding some of the GIFs from giphy ever since giphy switched their URLs to their new much longer format (and started auto converting some links to webp format instead of actual GIFs).
If you have a GIF from giphy (or somewhere else) that does not embed properly, you can use the manual image markdown I mention in that post to pressure discourse to embed the image on the forum:
![optional alt text description | optional resolution in width x height](link)
Example: ![tilting at wow windmills|400x374](https://media.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExMmI4YWUyOTQ5OTgyODY2YzFjY2VmYzY0NWE0ZjQ3YmUyYWRmMGRiMCZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZzX2dpZklkJmN0PWc/ceQcAr8oa5BIfWTb8W/giphy.gif)’
Where | is the pipe symbol, usually above the enter key. You don’t need the optional alternate text description, but if you are going to supply an optional resolution you still have to provide the |: ![|80x75](https://media.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExMmI4YWUyOTQ5OTgyODY2YzFjY2VmYzY0NWE0ZjQ3YmUyYWRmMGRiMCZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZzX2dpZklkJmN0PWc/ceQcAr8oa5BIfWTb8W/giphy.gif)’
If you provide no optional parameters, it will post at the original size: ![](https://media.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExMmI4YWUyOTQ5OTgyODY2YzFjY2VmYzY0NWE0ZjQ3YmUyYWRmMGRiMCZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZzX2dpZklkJmN0PWc/ceQcAr8oa5BIfWTb8W/giphy.gif)
An additional note: because they changed the discourse image handling settings in regards to auto-scaling of images back when they updated a few things on the forum in April, now when you provide the “optional” resolution parameter, the forum will scale exactly to that resolution instead of ignoring the height like it used to and instead scaling the height based on the original image’s aspect-ratio.
Since we are talking about permissions and trust levels and such, I thought it was a good time to remind everyone that while there may, or may not, be a secret trust level 5, there is absolutely no truth to the rumors of a secret cow level…as far as any of you non-bovines know.
whenever i post gifs in my discord server i usually prefer tenor because there’s not a lot of the click on the image and then have to right click again on image cause it just takes you to page like with gipher or tumbler gifs.
If you you grab the webp url for the image on giphy, the forums here will auto-embed fine too, but it’s a case of taking whether getting the link for the webp image is actually any faster than just using their “gif” url along with the markdown…
They also broke using percents in the image size parameters here too at some point this year…
I think when they broke auto apect-ratio correction.
FYI, I should note that if you use the markdown but do not provide the size parameter, you cannot embed the image directly in-line with text like I did . It will auto-newline if there’s no size given.
Isn’t battle net redundant? Will they continue to provide authentication services for blizzard games? Steam does everything battle.net does why would msoft want to pay for a service they already have?
As stated haven’t seen or heard anything about that either way .
Unless someone whose on forums works for them and wants to leak what info they have access to then we won’t know until they decide wether or not to keep or chuck BN.
