Are Troll warlocks legit (lore-wise)?

I don’t normally care about min./maxing, as I don’t do PvP or run dungeons/ raids above M+10. And though I don’t read the Warcraft novels, I like playing race-class combos that make (more) sense, lore-wise; yet, for whatever reason, I find it enticing that Troll currently tops DPS for the warlock class. But is there a reasonable explanation for Troll warlocks in WoW?

You can make an argument that troll warlocks are legit and based off the genealogy from the “Demoniac” (https:://wow.gamepedia.com/Demoniac).

I still find it puzzling that Zandalari cannot be warlocks as they are more known for the demoniacs than regular (darkspear / etc) trolls but I know from the troll starting area that there are those that have a connection to shadow and demons. Probably someone with more time / desire can provide more insight…lol

Let’s be brutally honest here: Zandalari Warlocks makes more logical sense than Zandalari Paladins.

My perception of the matter is: this ‘intentional missing’ was done to make it much ‘easier’ for newcomers to tell the difference between the 2 troll races that sits in the same faction.

A ‘Holy’ Troll vs a ‘Dark’ troll also makes them ‘different’ from the storytelling perspective.

Of course, this is my theory. We might never know what’s the actual reasoning behind said design decisions.

Well trolls were not allowedto be warlocks at first so i assume the lore is that they learned from the orcs and their natural spellcasting proclivities and cultural comfort with darker concepts and power than most are ok with worked togther to establish a stable population of warlocks within the darkspear fairly quickly

This does seem to be the most likely–and silly–reason why Blizz didn’t allow Zandalari trolls to be warlocks. What a race-class combo. that would’ve been, with their austere ways. The warlock class seems to make sooo much more sense for them than does the Paladin class.

I have been Forsaken for IDK how many years (was an orc for a little, than a goblin, then back to Forsaken) but I would have 100% totally race changed for a Zandalari Warlock and wouldn’t have even looked back. I was so disappointed when they told us that wasn’t going to happen.

If you can wield the Arcane, you can grow hungry for more power and tap into the Fel or Void. Thus becoming a Warlock.

IMO if your race can be a mage, you should be able to be a warlock.

Even shamans can become warlocks a la the early orcs. Its entirely possible any magic weilder could become warlocks.

So the only restrictiona would be races that actively would deny that power. So draenei and maybe tauren(that we play)?

Honestly i’m surprised troll warlocks werent a thing earlier. I mean trolls are into all kinds of things like da voodoo, magic ect, might as well throw in some demons in there.

I’ve always just chalked it up to them learning from the Orcs. They’ve lived next to them for years, some of the trolls probably just got curious, and tried their hand at Fel magic

Hey man im a troll warlock. Its my main. So cool but alot of ppl are like wtf and its hard to get invites into mythic 10+ coz ppl think dps are low. But im 430itm and do around 25k dps on bosses.

I’m surprised that people assume low DPS for a Troll warlock; Icy Veins lists Troll as the top DPS-performer for all three warlock specs, as of 8.2. Granted, that’s based on racial traits; other factors could make another warlock-playing race competitive. But, yeah, a Troll warlock, in theory, should be high-performing in Mythics.

more akin to DH than locks thoguh.

Zalazane was a warlock, and he was in at launch.

Per Wowpedia, Zalazane was a Hexmaster–which the site also lists as a "Warlock, Witch Doctor or Sorcerer; so I guess that the Troll-warlock combo. is legit–much like the Undead warlock, which some people have argued is not, despite one being represented in an early–the very first?–WoW trailer.
