Are they seriously locking spells and abilities behind factions?

Yeah, as an affliction warlock my “meaningful choice” for my level 15 talent row (until 8.3) is: 1. A talent that makes me do about 7% less DPS than if I picked nothing at all. 2. Another talent that was barely DPS positive. 3. A talent that was miles and miles ahead of the others in increased DPS.

So you’ll excuse me if I’m a bit worried about them balancing 4 factions worth of unique spells and abilities.

Which is exactly what you have to do, it’s a combination of that and the Naz follower levelling.

Pretty sure they’re just gonna be like Garrison abilities

That’s a good point. Hopefully they are only for outside of competitive arena/mythics

As opposed to locking them behind artifact weapons… ap… yeah I’d say to go chill a little but I think it’s obvious we like to complain often and about everything on the forums.

This and so many people seem to think balancing abilities means parity across all classes and specs for any given situation and that isn’t balance. Balance means x class and spec excels at this x task but isn’t as good at y task, where y class and spec are better suited. Like in wrath when druids were the best raid healers, paladins the best tank healers and disc priests the best pvp healers. That was balanced. Didn’t mean u couldn’t heal pvp as a druid or tanks as a disc priest, but the idea situation and toolkit was clear

It will probably just be like faction champion abilities… an annoying extra action button in the middle of your screen depending on what side you chose that you can activate every hour.

This this right here…
Just remember oh its only PTR it will get fixed
Oh its only 9.1 it will be fixed in 9.2
Oh well the next expansion is coming out soon

Balancing every talent for every spec of every class is a far more difficult endeavor than balancing 4 factions. This task is perfectly within Blizzard’s ability. It’s good to put pressure on them to make bold decisions work, instead of not making bold decisions at all.

Again, we haven’t seen how they’re balanced, so save the fear is premature.

People see their class isn’t OP in everything and cry balance… honestly have a misconstrued idea of what balancing even is. There is a panel for the game later… there are people who can’t be bothered to search for the features list even lol…

Everyone will likely pick the same covenant once the sims have done their work

Ion liked that

Because then the new factions would just be regular factions.

I don’t have problems with any of this - the diversity is nice.

My concern is how much they’ll charge us to switch.

For players who play multiple roles and play competitively in raids, M+, arena, etc. - switching will be very common and frequent.

Azerite traits punished players that did this by charging them to switch traits - which they later became slightly more lenient on. But that didn’t really help if you wanna PvP for half an hour before running an M+ and then raid with your guild later that night - only to have to pay again if you wanted to get a few more arena matches in before bed.

My guess is that they wont be DPS/HPS related abilities, and more utility ones like ‘2% lifesteal’ , or they could take the Elder Scrolls Online route, and have the abilities be super OP, but disabled in ranked environments

Well, this will be fun for us RPers.

Can’t wait til they tie the best abilities to the evil faction and we have to choose between character consistency and viability.

I bet they are.

I bet they aren’t.

I’m sure alpha/beta/prepatch/hotfix/9.1/9.2/9.3/next expansion will fix it.

Wow, you have a lot have faith in blizzard…
God i hope your right…but with BFA and seeing what they did…god i hope your right…

I have hopes, Shadowlands was produced by the Legion team, which was a decent expansion. Only thing Im worried about is another AP grind

Good. Choices actually matter. I like that.

Pretty sure the last 3 expansions have been produced by the Diablo 3 team.
