Are they Nerfing The Use Of Consumables?

I just heard from a guildie that they are nerfing the use of consumables (potions, food) in Dungeon and Raid to a single such buff running in each ‘boss encounter’? If this is true it is an extreme anti-casual move.

This is not a change from WOTLK game play.

Not as I remember (and I played from original BC onward). Running 2 potions (or 1 flask) and a food buff was a standard way of play that I know of from BC until much later than WOTLK. Only being able to have one of these is a nerf against people with less than BIS etc.

You get a food buff. You get a flask buff. You get to use your potions on cooldown, unless they are switched over to “once per fight” which I thought came later (aka 2 with pre-potting).

They changed it in wrath. In wrath they allowed 1 pot once a boss encounter started so you would use a potion right before a pull get the buff for like 15ish seconds of the boss then could pot again after 2 minutes.

Dude, chill. You misunderstood it

You get to have up to:
1 flask, 1 pot, 1 food, 1 scroll

All four of them at the same time.

The only change is that once you’ve used a potion during a boss fight (regardless if it’s a health pot or a haste pot, or any other potion), all your pots become unusable until the fight is over

You can only use 1 potion per combat (potion sickness) so you pop potions before pulls.

Flasks last only 1 hour (2 if you’re an alchemist)

Scrolls count as a battle elixir so they’re now pointless to use.

Feasts are a thing in WotLK, like a mage table it’s something the entire raid/party can interact with and gain food buffs. Unless you’re after more niche food buffs.

no, casuals cant afford consumables. it’s a pro-casual move.

I am what most folks consider a casual, and I make consumables both for myself and for others. I only raid/Dungeon occasionally due to keeping very random hours and spending a lot of time on when others are asleep. I’m not one of these folks that raid and run their maximum number of mythics each week… the guild I am in was running multiple raid teams day and night 5 days a week for the first half of TBC. That’s slowed as our server has taken a population hit.

He drinks a Flask drink, he drinks a Potion drink
He drinks a Food drink, he drinks a Scroll drink
He sings the lays that remind him of the good times
He sings the lays that remind him of the better times

can’t use scrolls over any raid buff, so unless your raid is missing a spec that does it you won’t need scrolls anymore.

food, 2 elixirs (guardian and battle) or a flask, then you can use 1 potion (like a haste pot) right before you enter combat and one after because you can only use 1 potion in combat.

No more mana oils, no more scrolls.

Not sure how reducing consumables is anti-casual considering how much whining there has been from casuals about having to bring consumables at all.

Scrolls of str and agi can still be used(both on you and your pet if you’re a hunter)
And I’m sure there’s a Kibler’s bits equivalent.

But functionally, you are right: the damage increase from scrolls and bits is so small that they are effectively useless if you’re not in the sweaty zone

You can’t, been tested on the beta server. Other classes cover those buffs - scrolls are useless unless you don’t have DKs or shaman

Yes, demo locks and hunters will use mammoth treats for their pets

Yeah, when they introduced crafteable scrolls also made sure to make them unusable in raids. They still good for solo and 5mans tho

Its one guardian pot int sta ect and 1 battle elixir agility spell power ect or a flask. Been that way since bc dont remember switching it in wrath.

Thanks!
Forgot/wasn’t aware of those overlapping with scrolls, very good info!

This is an intentional change in WOTLK. You can only use one health and one mana potion per combat; the cooldown does not start ticking until you leave combat.

A welcome change really; having to spam mana potions on healers was annoying.

yeah there was a lot of contradictory information for awhile so I asked guildies with beta to test

No one pot per fight they mean. So you have to prepot now
