Are there comps that dont work anymore?

Arena has a long way in class diversity.

Outside of a spec functionally not working/undertuned and i cant think of any rn as far as dps/dps/healer goes and maybe class stacking; is anything gonna fail from the gates opening?

Anything with a MM hunter is going to struggle. FDK seems weak to me as well.

Lots of the traditional comps aren’t as good as they have been in the past. This isn’t to say in some format they can’t work, just that they aren’t nearly as strong as they once were, at least consistently working.

Such as PHP and Thug. There are a variety of reasons for it, but one of the big things is none of the hunters specs have the burst like they used to and a lot of the specs that hunter’s once countered, are no longer counters. I.E. Anything with cloth. So with those classes being more tanky and burst being lower, it’s really hard to pull cds out of specs even with good setups. In the past, playing against those comps meant you’re basically on a timer. This meant you were getting kills off the opener or the first few setups. After that, you might have a minute or more where neither the rogue or the hunter have any real offesnive cds and you have likely exhausted your defensives as well.

So that really extends into all the comps that ret and MM/BM hunters used to play with. Comps like KFC can still work to some degree, but the roles have somewhat changed. This isn’t to say those comps won’t be more relevant later in the xpac as damage goes up some, but it’s hard to say.

Outside of that, the traditional rot comps are very different now. Affl lock and S.priest dots are weak. wwls and rls were once some of the best comps around, but don’t really hold up these days. Boomi spread damage is great, but lots of the games I see with them are still getting kill inside setups with hoooge star surges.

Also, the meta on the whole is just… off now. With MW being the top heals, they easily fit into almost any comp, just… because… well they heal for a ton and have an amazing mana efficiency. MW once did well to counter a lot of the melee cleaves, but now they do well against just about everything.

At the end of the day though, most comps are still fine for hitting 1800-2100. At those ratings it’s more about communication and just knowing the best kill target and just playing your own class properly. It’s easy to look at the best comps and think you need to play it, but most of the time they are the best for reasons most of the pvp population can’t do.

My question was rather shallow, i was basically asking if you can put together any 3 classes and would it function.

You filled the blanks and answered as to why traditional comps don’t work or rather, not worthwhile.

I was seeing a lot of MM hunters the other day at 1900-2k Aimed Shots were critting for 26k? Thats the max details! reported anyway, might of just been careful aim modifying that initial/fatal AS

So was curious if the game was at a point that anything can be run at some capacity, where as in the past seemed like comps were far more strict

You’re right, there are more comp diversity now. Again at much higher bracket levels, mw Monk has slid into thee healer spot. As far as DPS goes, alot of combinations can be successful.
