I’ve kind of throttled myself and maybe that’s a core issue. Had a lot of bad 15s and 16s last week so this week I’ve gone lower just to fill out 2k on this toon. Only 2 (14s) so far this week, but both of them things died so fast. And that’s probably why I desync so easy. Full burn on pack, finish pack before it ends, start next with filler since totm is on cd, comes off cd when pack is almost dead, go to next pack and can mini burn, but now surge is 20 seconds away. If they live longer then maybe that second pack would be worth using totm on CD.
Maybe I should stop using my overall damage as a reason to stick to lower keys if being in lower keys lowers my damage anyways.
I mean, you can just ‘hit the button’ with fire mage, but you’d be wildly sub-optimal if you were doing so. Fire isn’t hyper difficult or anything, but it does take some finesse.
Ret has a lot of utility to use to play properly
Fire has one of the hardest rotations in the game because of the timings. Just because it’s not a lot of buttons doesn’t make it simple to play properly.
People talk about Unholy DK like there’s a lot under the hood, and I guess there is, technically, but the play style is really simple. Core rotation is: keep diseases going (1 button applies them to all mobs in AoE), build wounds, spend wounds, build Runic Power, spend Runic Power.
For general use, outside of big spiky damage cooldowns, it really is maybe only 4 or 5 main buttons being pressed.
I know it’s literally only maybe 4 or 5 buttons but I get scared after 10 minutes and paranoia myself into thinking I’m screwing the timing up on my procs and DoTs so then I run away back to my DK, only it’s fine when I do it on this character because this guy has been my main for the last 14 years.
Was the rework for 10.2? I played it during 10.1.5 and it didn’t have many buttons at all.
Edit:
I just checked. It’s still like 3 buttons, with some 30-second and 1-minute CDs thrown in.
Frost Mage just spams Frostbolt until Flurry procs, then they use the Flurry proc, and then they hit Ice Lance twice, in that order, repeating it for the entire fight. Sure, there are other spells like Ray of Frost, Comet Storm, and Glacial Spike, but you’re only pressing them once or twice per minute. It’s like saying Bestial Wrath is part of BM Hunter’s rotation because it gets pressed once every ~40 seconds.
BM Hunter’s “rotation” is Barbed Shot, Kill Command, and Cobra Shot.
Frost Mage’s “rotation” is Frostbolt, Flurry, and Ice Lance.
Fury Warrior’s “rotation” is Bloodthirst, Raging Blow, and Rampage.
There will always be some other “fluff” buttons or cooldowns to press with those 3 spells, but those 3 spells are pretty much what you’re smashing every second of the fight.
