Are some classes just better?

I have a friend I play wow with who is a ret pally. Im a frost dk. He makes fun of me constantly and tells me I am bad. He is 16 ilvl lower than me and consistently been lower geared than me this whole expac. We are running M+ and he is pulling half a millie more dps than me a each pull and overall at the end is always ahead by like 30-50% of my damage.

Is Ret just better than Frost or am I actually doing something wrong? Like im 628 ilvl he is like 612 …and he never seems to have cooldowns unavailable…is cranking max dmg every pull whereas I feel like if the tank doesnt chain pull, my breath falls off and then im back to doing nothing for 45 sec - 2 min.

Is there somewhere I can go to find out what a “good amount of damage is for a 10+” with a frost dk?

Im doing between 1.5 and 2 billion overall each run and have no idea if this is good because this lower geared friend is telling me its bad. When I pug with others im usually the top dps so I really dont know wth is going on. I just wanna know if im doing something wrong or if my guildie is just arrogant. I feel like ret is ez mode and wanna tell him that but i dont wanna be missing something on my end either.

Due to balance, yes.

Basically every tank is better than Brewmaster Monks right now, for example.

There’s a meta for a reason- because it’s easiest for the party.

Folks generally don’t want things to be harder if they can do the same thing but easier. (For the same rewards, anyways.)

Maybe you can watch videos on Frost DK rotation or something, that may help.

Yes, Ret is easy-mode, it’s comparable to BM Hunters lol. Just an overloaded kit that can handle anything you throw at it.

Come pvp. That’ll give you the answer you seek.

Frost, Ret, and Unholy are all extremely comparable right now DPS-wise in M+. He’s likely just performing better than you are: https://mythicstats.com/dps

I’d work on your rotation, gear optimization, etc.

Ret pally is like a BM hunter, dont need gear and faceroll numbers

General answer is yes.

Ret in particular is not very hard to pull off. I would say the greatest skill of Ret is utility usage. Pallies have many tools that can be good for a variety of situations, so a Ret that does use their tools and one who doesn’t (including off healing) is noticeable.

The best Class is the one you enjoy playing.

Both of those statements are incorrect.

Frost DK is just harder to play at high end.

While the class itself has had its ups and downs, it’s well known that people who play Paladins tend to just be much better players than the average person, regardless of how the game is balanced at the time. The class just seems to attract the most skillful and devoted individuals. They’re also (minimum) 27% more attractive in real life than the average WoW player, according to well-regarded scientific journals.

Ret is easy and effective, which might be one definition of better in this scenario.

Monk players are all depressed IRL, I bet.

Especially if they stick with the class. :stuck_out_tongue:

Huh? Frost DK is literally a top 3 M+ spec right now LMAO

Rogue is the best of the best.

Ret has a 10-20 sec burst window every 30 seconds.

That doesn’t sound like a friend to me. Life is short, spend it with quality people :+1:t3:

Ret is strong, but ultimately you’re probably doing something wrong, as Frost is also pretty strong in M+. Probably stronger than Ret tbh.

The issue is, Ret is braindead easy to play. It’s one of 3 or so specs you can throw at someone who has barely touched an MMO and they’ll probably be able to perform pretty decently if they’re capable of not getting themselves killed.

Ret isn’t necessarily better, but being harder to mess up makes it easier to perform well with it.
Fury Warrior is much the same, as is BM Hunter last I heard (though I’m less familiar with that).

I’m pretty sure Frost DK is a big AoE CD spec, so if you’re using your CDs poorly or the tank is pulling little baby pulls constantly, you won’t be doing as much as you should be.

Its like cheese, some types are better on pizza, others on nachos, etc. Learn your best cheese.

For many players, the one you enjoy playing is the one you can get groups and actually play on, and not feel like a burden. The idea that balance shouldn’t affect that decision is utterly nonsensical.

The answer is unequivocally yes, some specs are always much better than others. That doesn’t mean that player skill isn’t a factor too.

Tell him to prove he is better and play Shadow Priest. If he thinks it is the player, and not the class, he can put up or shut up
