Are Shockadins a thing?

I use to hear about them all the time back in the day, does anyone run Holy as an offensive build?

31/0/20 is better IMO. You don’t have issues with melee like you do with casters. Eye for an eye makes sure the damage you take is getting thrown back at your opponent.

33/0/18 is great build for a SoR build as the other guy was stating.

The biggest burst you’re going to get as a shockadin, however, is going to be landing a HoJ, popping ZGC, throwing a Judgement of command into them and divine favoring holy shock. I’ve done 1600 JoC into 1200 holy shocks this way.

I think the SoR build is a bit more rounded but you have to stack 3% spell hit for that.

you don’t have enough dmg to take down r13 gear

theyll literally just have too much hp

That was likely in TBC where the cooldown was reduced to 15 seconds. In Classic pvp fights don’t last 15 seconds. Holy shock is great in PvP but it has a 30 second cooldown. There’s other builds for paladins in Classic that are far superior to a shockadin build.

What would you classify as “far superior”?

edit: you can use https://classic.wowhead.com/talent-calc/paladin to post the spec. Just incase the URL with `

“Shockadins” don’t become a real thing until TBC, with it’s improvements to talent trees, gear itemization, etc. I had a lot of fun with one in TBC.

With a 30 second cooldown you don’t get a whole lot of offensive utility from holy shock. If you’re wanting burst you can go holy reckoning, or deep ret, or ret reckoning. All 3 specs have more offensive burst than a shockadin build. A lot of people even use those 3 specs and wear healing gear for pvp so they get the offensive burst while still being about to heal.

Holy shock is an instant cast heal so deep holy does provide a very small amount of defensive utility that the other specs don’t. Beyond holy shock just about every holy talent only gives Mp5, so it’s just not as good for pvp as you’d expect. Take for example the +12% healing via holy light and flash of light. This 12% only effects your base heal, not any multipliers via gear upgrades. So when you have +1000 healing and your flash of light is hitting for ~950, removing the talent points for the 12% will only take about 60 total healing away from your flash of light. It’s not huge, and it’s really not needed.

You can go deep ret, wear healing gear, and do almost the same healing in PvP as a deep holy paladin, but still have a lot more offensive utility than a holy paladin.

I play shockadin in a 31/0/20. Ideally you want spell plate but I would also recommend keeping a good 2h. HoJ into Melee + SoC proc + judgement + holy shock can do some devastating damage (often enough to put someone in hammer of wrath range).

However shockadin are very much a support PvP spec. In team fights you should only be dropping your burst to secure kills on priority targets before stepping back and pumping out the heals, handing out freedoms and bops.

In 1v1 you can still do pretty well, but your goal is generally to stall out the fight until you can get them in kill range with holy shock + judgment combo. Against tankier opponents like warriors you want a 1h and shield (manslayer is very nice) while against cloth opponents a meaty 2h is much better. If you come across classes like priests and locks who can drain mana… probably better off just running haha.

Shockadin is very viable in pvp (33/0/18). I spent 4 days farming out av exalted last holiday weekend and I could routinely 100-0 warlords inside a HoJ. It’s not hard.

Consecration > HoJ > auto-attack+command seal > Judgement > Divine Favor + Holy Shock = Dead.

no avoiding that unfortunately. But t2.5 is perfectly itemized for a good shockadin build - so I expect to see some strong plays from pallies moving forward.

If you have done this, you probably did it once with a ton of set up. Probably something like HoJ when you have SotC up, ZHC, Judgement, divine favor, holy shock. That’s a 2 minute cool down that does at most like 4k damage. Most of the time, it’s significantly less. Do not expect this kind of damage from shockadin. It’s irritating that paladins are giving other paladins false expectations.

And while you’re doing this, you aren’t healing. At least shaman can do 6k damage to two targets on a 2 min CD and it’s easy to set up and quick to cast.

Play your paladin as either a scuffed priest or a scuffed warrior. That’s it for classic unfortunately.**

**You are a top of the line support healer in PvP, though. Seriously good in that role.

I went into detail how I am able to do that… lol yes it’s every 2 minutes. That’s why a 33/0/18 build is more well rounded for healing and then popping in when someone is low to secure kills. I would need to have a nelth tear to go back to a 33/0/18. Just too depressing to miss your holyshock and judgements.

The reason i go
31/13/7

Instead of

31/0/20

Is because if you dont have at least 7 points into protection tree for 16 second blessing of freedom and 3 min cooldown BoP you are a trash pvp paladin imo

Paladins should prioritize support, not just maximizing one role (especially damage)

SoR is much more reliable than SoC

And i wouldnt be caught dead with a 2h and non plate armor in pvp

Paladins whole advantage is surviving and healing. Now because we have those advantages built in i like to stack spellpower instead of healing to make my support damage at least surprising to the enemy. So if they try to attack me, i can bite back.

I like to be capable in all aspects of the game without respec so you could take out 2/2 imp wisdom and 1/3 imp judgement of light/wis but i like those for PvE

You just don’t need guardians favor unless you exclusively run WSG.

If you feel that makes or breaks you as a paladin, then you are not positioning correctly or rotating your cd’s effectively.

That’s where things like grenades and shard of the fallen star are used to close the gap

That’s a big negatron Megatron. Guardians favor is bis for group pvp of any kind. It’s a huge difference in AB or wsg.
