Precisely, once you get the basics down you want to turn the addon off as it won’t be accurate to what you really need to be doing.
TBH a lot of it comes down to looking at logs, WoWhewd, and asking questions on the class hall discords to get the finer details down to really pull the best out fo your spec.
That’s my goal eventually but i’m looking to give a few different classes a try so the rotation helper would be useful in playing with a new spec and seeing if I like how it plays, then once I decide if I like the class/spec, i’ll actually spend the time learning the nuances and such.
That’s what peaks my interest in them too. I’m satisfied with Monk (which as WW is basically prio Windlord to RSK/FoF then reinforced Blackout kicks) but other classes seem they would be good starting out with some helper.
Id recommend MaxDPS as you can install individual add-ons for whatever class you want to try out and it doesn’t flash anything big or annoying on screen, it only highlights a spell you should press next. It’s also very customizable and you can change the highlight to whatever size or shape or color you want. I run off the default suggestions as it’s enough for me.
No and frankly I’ve never found them useful or even a little bit helpful. The GCDs are way too fast for them to be good, I could see them being better in Classic but there the rotations are simple enough you don’t need a coach
Well, I personally use Hero Rotation. It’s pretty good. It automatically adjusts to CDs and aoe situations as well. Maybe give that a try. Up to you, also maybe look into getting the curseforge desktop app to easily keep things updated. Just some suggestions. Good luck and happy hunting!
If it works within the Lua addon sandbox, it’s fine. Blizzard controls what addons are able to do, and if they don’t want addons doing something they will disable that function.
The only way it’s possible to break the rules with addons is things like spamming chat.
Good way to look at it, but keep in mind you are allowed to write macros that do several things at once. For instance, I (and many other DK players) use the following on pull:
Its not actually grey. The addon is free but you need to pay for their data. An example is rested XP. The addon is free but you need to pay for their privately developed guides if you want to get past 30 with it. A violation would be the addon is free but 100% useless with out paying and being locked to prevent use of 3rd party or self developed data files.
I strongly recommend leveling any class you have never played, and reading both the spells and talent tree. While something like a rotation helper may offer some help, it’s not going to teach you class mechanics. Virtually every class runs a priority rotation off procs. A good weakaura kit gives you all this.
Instead i suggest you streamline your UI. It needs to be the same for every character. Saves learning curve. Use the exact same keybinds for every character. Example if the class has a “kick” bind that to same key on every different character. Same for mobility boosts, like paladin divine steed, monk roll, etc. trinkets, same key bind all characters.pots same. Then build each characters core spell list based on similarities.
I recommend quazi’s Weak auras and Elvui.
The more you streamline the easier it is to play multiple different classes.
Practice on target dummies. Practice runing low end instances. All of this should take youfurthr than a rotation helper. Also tons of great videos. Checkout skill capped gaming. They have some solid vids for PvP and PvE with players from top .1%
Hekilli works exactly the same as the sims on raidbots do. Only thing is it doesn’t know the context of the fight, so as long as you do, you can override as needed.
Hekilli will only get you so far. The more you use it the more you feel dependent on it. Not saying its bad, some people i know just keep it on the bottom left of their screen or minimize it near their action bars.
They’re good for people who want to try a new spec casually. They’re not for top players. Top players don’t need them. Taking them away from casuals would make the learning curve pointlessly more difficult.
You mean unlike weak auras, that everybody weans themselves from after a few play sessions?
No, it is what it is, which is a poor man’s weak aura programmed for basic spells.
Patrons and donations are not considered paid. Blizzard has outlined this numerous times as lots of allowed mods use those for access. Its not many but does exist. Helki and other helpers are not bannable. They dont do anything for you except lay out a general rotation based on CDs and enemy health. Similar to weak auras. All inputs are by you. It wont be a perfect rotation but a guide to help learn the spec and get started
