when my dad used to play he always made sure to find a bed for his character to /sleep in before he’d log off, it was kinda funny watching him hearth back to teldrassil from tanaris just so he could log off in the beds there.

More like an extreme version of the college kid who goes around his neighborhood, offering to mow lawns for money as a summer odd-job.
That isn’t even the worst of it… there are only a couple dozen outhouses in the entire game… so spoiler alert, every major city probably reeks of poo.
The highmountain male have a joke about how they “tricked some epic adventurer into kicking fish into the river”. And then they stop, and go: “Oh. That wasn’t you was it?” Which is humorous, and fits in line with this way of thinking.
However, I don’t think so. I think we’re simply labeled as ‘protagonists’.

Our characters aren’t hobos, our characters don’t even exist.
But of course some “adventurers” live in those many houses we don’t even get to see in game but we know “are there” among the hunderds of people on towns and thousands on cities.
