It seems like many people are excited for dragonflying throughout the game, however I’m feeling concerned that it’s going to render a vast majority of my mount collection obsolete. Collecting mounts is one of the main things I do these days and can’t say I haven’t spent a decent chunk of money on shop mounts.
What’s the point of collecting cool looking or rare mounts when everyone will be flying the same seven mounts? I guess maybe if the new expansion is ground mounts only at the start that might keep them relevent?

Starting next expansion pretty much any mount with wings will be able to dragonride(dynamic fly)

Well, Ground only mounts were always useless.
Blizzard plans to make Flying mounts have Dynamic Flying. Druid Flight form as well.
Think some data-miners found something about dynamic ground mounts at some point so they may not be leaving the grounders in the dust afterall

They should add that to Zen Flight for monks

They should make Zen Flight work like Druid Flight form.

What do you mean? The forum said that most people hate dragon flying and that’s why we need regular flying in DF.

Nah because it is better than druid flight form, You can mount and dismount from it.
My Magic Rooster Egg mount is not useless…he is my pride and joy and most favorite ground mount…

I have pretty much given up on chasing mount drops now…I have my most two wanted mounts in game now …the Magic Rooster Egg
and The Love Rocket
if I happen to get a mount as time goes by that is fine but actively chasing them I am done.
What, it’s only now that dragonriding/dynamic flight is a thing that people are starting to realize that mounts are basically all the same? Collect toys or even battle pets, they all at least do different things unlike mounts which have what, like 4 different categories now. Ground, flying, aquatic, dragonriding. Asterisk for the ones that let you gather herbs.
Imagine being excited every patch for 6 new recolors to grind for.

Mounts haven’t ever been deemed ‘collectable’ only because they are usable at a given time. For the last several expansions before DF, you couldn’t use flying mounts at all (for actual flying) until completing Pathfinder, and ground mounts are usable all the time.
Be honest. Anyone that collects mounts does so to be able to show them off in the city to other collectors. Dragonflight changes this not in the least.
Wrong you can use flying mounts as a ground mount …looks a bit silly but they can be used to get around on the ground.

Fine, I suppose I can go back and fix it.
I love ground mounts, flying mounts and dragonriding mounts, always have and likely always will. I never hated having to use ground mounts in a new expansion, only ever thought the period of time before pathfinder was too dang long. I use a lot of different mounts across a lot of different alts and also recently hit 500 and was pretty damn happy.
I only speak for myself though…and there are a ton of mounts I never use, but getting mounts is a part of what I love about the game, I just wish there were more singular unique mounts instead of the same mount with 8 different recolors that are barely different browns or grays from another one. /shrug
That’s how it felt in DF but they’re giving us more options soon. I believe most dragons, drakes and proto-drakes are getting dragon riding. Invisible is getting it since he was featured in a trailer with dragon riding.
But mount collecting is obsolete just not for the reason you think. Atm there are 955 available mounts Horde side. The highest collecting achievement is 500. The mount bloat is so insane now that it’s starting to feel like I’m collecting pebbles out of my drive way instead of rare gems.

what’s the point in mount collecting anymore when everyone will get your rarest and coolest mounts out of the trading post for free eventually?
We don’t know that and a recent interview with Ion did not confirm it. He said stuff like gladiator, AOTC and KSM mounts will not be on the TP.
Yes, there’s always a chance that Ion will be replaced or overruled but atm that’s not going to happen.
for now, people constantly ask for pvp mounts and sets to be easier to obtain and for old unobtainable sets to come back.
the issue is that if something is common, it is not cool or desirable. if it is rare, then it is cool and if it is cool, it is desirable. if it is desirable, then people ask for it to be easy to obtain, once it is easy to obtain, it becomes common and is no longer cool or desirable.
