There was a big thing about it on Youtube like 4 months ago so it’s far from “tinfoil hat”.
Besides, some people “watch” for other reasons. Example, many people were tuned into KDWOW and not because they were enjoying her playing an MMO…

MMOs do what dooms most things: They tend to eagerly try to please a massive number of people with mostly conflicting wishes, and make it bad to everyone in time.
Another kind of Ouroboros like many that doom things that shouldnt grow bigger than a certain point.
I wouldn’t say dying breed but fps and obviously LoL/GTA 5 (role playing) draws in a lot more people. Lost Ark is there because it just launched for NA yesterday. In all honesty, mmos are kind of boring to watch other people play imo. Watching people go head to head in like fps games or sports or mobas is more entertaining.
edit: WoW will be back in that first row when 9.2 launches and the race to World First starts again.
Amazing YT channel.
Is that Twitch? I watch LetsGameItOut and John Burk, but otherwise, I don’t use that program. Is that how we are measuring a games worth now? Seems…unbalanced.
Thank god.
MMOs have always been niche in terms of the broader gaming world.
I don’t think MMOs are a dying genre. I do think the genre is dealing with a bit of an identity crisis, but that’s another topic.
MMORPG’s are a dying breed.
From my experience on Guild Wars 2 over the last few weeks, either there are a lot of people making alts, or maybe Warcraft isn’t the standard people should be using to determine the lifespan of a game genre.
I am basing my observation on all the younger people I know.
We’re all basing opinions on our observations, but won’t really know, until it happens. When I was solely focused on Wow, it felt like death. Since I’ve expanded to other games, I think the black hole is strictly hovering over Blizzard HQ.
I agree we can only use our own observations since there is no data. Do you know any young players playing any other MMORPGs?
MMOs are boring to watch.
Not directly, but I don’t make a point to bring up another players age, as it is irrelevant to me. I’ve merely noticed an uptick in new players on multiple games, unlike what we experience on this game. I literally had to leave my favorite game, to snag a breath of fresh air, and see that there are players out there, they are just avoiding Warcraft for a multitude of reasons.
This is very relevant to me as is the reason I see the genre slowing dying out.
MMOs started being more niche like 10 years ago.
They’re also just generally not fun to watch unless it’s super cutting edge progression or the streamer has a good personality.
I mean… all the big mmos on that screen shot are on the front page still.
To be frank watching people play MMO’s isn’t like the most engaging? I love wow and wow classic but I have zero interest in watching people stream it.
I don’t htink MMO’s are the genre of game that does well with.
LIke new world, maybe if your in pvp all the time it’s intresting, but 90% of the game is running from node to node hacking at wood and iron. It’s not engaging.
I guess we’ll just have to wait an see!
The most interesting part of WoW specifically to watch has historically been PvP. PvP is in the garbage right now. No shock there’s a big hit in viewership.
Of course they are dying.
They are always dying.
The start dying the moment they go into beta.
Look how dead they are…
