Are Koltria and Thassarian related or not?

I have a question that has been bugging me with Koltria and Thassarian. Since they are death knights and Thassarian says during the Death Knight questchain starting zone that He and Koltria are brothers of the Scourge. Are they like related or is there something else more with Koltria and Thassarian?

Just what was said, more akin to brothers-in-arms. Same as the Eternals, Titans, Naaru, etc referring to other gods and godlike entities as “brother”.

They are similar in rank and file, function, status, etc. Not blood related. Even Renathal referring to Denathrius as “father” is less biological and more creator-creation relations.

One killed the other and they kind of helped each other in undeath.

There is a whole story about it in… I wanna say the manga?

Oh. So it’s ok for them to go beyond just being friends like Ship for example between them?

Thassarian killed Koltria and his brother.

I mean, legally you can kinda ship anything, not much anybody can do to stop you unless it’s like minors and you’re going into illegal public territory with it.

Though them both being the Death Knight equivalent of reanimated undead, that would be a bit… uncosher?

Shipping them is disgusting.

Koltira is an elf, that’s like romanticizing your pet roaches.

I

It’s like the military where they refer to eachother as brothersin arms .

Have you ever seen the mini series Band of Brothers by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. It’s like that .

I mean it was good enough for all three Windrunner sisters.

No, they’re not related by blood, why would you-

Ah.

You do you, but that’s definitely not their story whatsoever.

There seem to be a segment of the player base who does not understand that two men can be friends / brothers in arms, but not in a romantic relationship type way. They are “brothers” in arms / “lived” through the Scourge invasion and all that.

Just let the shippers ship lol

I ship Meerah and Savor

Mark my words, one day we will get a 12 chapters miniseries about their “fox meets zombie” love story

They’re comrades in battle, not actual brothers lol.

One’s a human and one’s a blood elf.

Can you imagine them trying to hold hands? Koltira inching his hand across the table trying to be all subtle while Thassarian glares at him.

brothers in arms, not literal brothers.

Short version: they are not related in any biological sense, but they are brothers in arms and have a closer personal relationship than most death knights.

Long version: the Death Knight manga tells Thassarian’s personal story and includes how he and Koltira first met. Thassarian was part of Arthas’ forces that sailed to Northrend in pursuit of Malganas after Stratholme (not part of the Culling, as Cho incorrectly states at the anniversary event), and he was killed and raised as one of Arthas’ earliest death knights after Falric and Marwyn. Koltira was guarding An’owyn along with his brother Faltora (not clear if he was a ranger or some other form of soldier, but he was proficient with both a bow and a sword) when they were attacked by Thassarian’s company of Scourge during the invasion of Quel’Thalas. Koltira survived the initial attack and was able to retreat, but not before he watched an abomination kill Faltora after Thassarian hesistated to finish him off. Koltira was intrigued by Thassarian’s hesitation, and followed his company, watching him from the cover of the woods and eventually baiting him to wander off from his group so that Koltira could confront him alone. Koltira, having judged that Thassarian was not just a mindless wretch and possibly still had some will of his own, tried to convince Thassarian to leave the Scourge and come with him. Thassarian refused, saying that he could not, but also let Koltira leave unchallenged, warning that he would kill Koltira if they met again.

Koltira retreated to Silvermoon and stood in the defense of the city walls. Thassarian encountered him there the next day and they dueled, and Thassarian indeed made good on his promise and killed Koltira, with Arthas looking on from a distance. Koltira then was raised as another death knight, and Thassarian, possibly feeling some sense of responsibility for his fate, kept close by him from that point on until the Ebon Blade broke away from the Scourge. Even while still part of the Scourge, they were close companions, with Thassarian breaking protocal during the death knight starting zone in order to rescue Koltira from the Scarlet Crusade.

Ship whomever you please, this is fiction. That said, Thassarian/Koltira is a fairly popular ship, so enjoy.
