I haven’t ever done it before, but it should be theoretically possible (just remember you can only have three people in an expedition). If you do a normal, the Alliance doesn’t show up until you collect half of the azerite. I decided to wait around and afk and they still didn’t show, so you should be fine as long as you don’t collect any.
The islands are on a rotation with three islands a week that you queue into at random, so you can’t get to the same one reliably, unfortunately. I think with Shadowlands you don’t need to unlock islands anymore, or you just have to do the very first Kul Tiras/Zandalar intro quests.
It’s not the same thing but you could use the islands off the east coast of Stranglethorn. I think the only thing inhabiting them are animals and a Discount King Kong. You wouldn’t have to deal with unlocking them either.
My guildies and I talk about it but unfortunately I think there’s a timer (enemy team collects azerite) and a boatload of hostiles everywhere. You also can’t reliably go back to the same island.
Really wish they had a tourist mode or something because some of the generated islands are incredibly cool!
Interesting idea. With in a guild it seems possible. Sounds like you don’t have to worry about getting kicked off if you don’t collect over half Azerite.
To work around the 2nd issue I’d say plan something for every island, or for an easier time, if it’s not the island you planned to RP in…well dang, i guess the ship hit a storm or the navigator is too green and you have to RP getting back home to try again another day.
It seems like it’s actually doable. If you try it i hope it works out.
Such a waste of such good content … let us go back and colonize an island or three as Player Housing, something that the Players can go back to between expansions, between content droughts, and farm reputations, old content and challenging new content for building patterns, furniture and even hireable NPCs to run the place while we’re off saving the world from whatever has emerged from the Sock Drawer this week.
So many expansion gimmicks have gone to waste because they were just for that expansion. Garrisons - Blizz’s half-assed answer to housing, Order Halls - housing attempt #2, artefact weapons, heart necklace, that cloak from Wrathion, island expeditions, Companions we could take on adventures in both WOD and Legion, but disappeared in BFA…
I’m sure dragonflying will end on the wayside after the new expansion too. I really like the covenant abilities and the sorta-but-not-really covenant bases (housing attempt #3), but I’m sure Blizz will do something to explain why we can’t use our cool new abilities anymore.
The amount of time, energy and finances this company and the developers have spent on disposable expansion gimmicks that no one asked for, wanted or sometimes even liked that could have been spent on creating player housing is flat out infuriating.
Because housing is much harder to justify around constantly logging on every day to do pointless tasks for that will inevitably erase all your hard-work (or make it useless) because the new treadmill is coming out.
