Are Heirloom weapons for DK a bad idea?

Is it a detriment to use Heirloom weapons on DK (for example, dual wield Battleworn Thrashblades) because we would miss out on Runeforging enchant, since you cant runeforge Heirloom weapons? Is the runeforge enchant that big of a deal?

Sorry im new to DK so unsure of this one. Leveling as Frost if that matters.

I’m not sure how big of a role the runeforge plays while leveling up, but I know as of next week you should be able to runeforge the BOA weps since it was added in cata patch 4.0.3. So you can always wait if you arn’t in that huge of a hurry. Side note - Next week 60-70 gets a small nerf and 70-80 gets cut in half to be even faster than with JJ buff.

You would normally slap crusader to 1 of the 2h heirlooms. Next week however you can simply use DK enchants on them.

Yes cataclysm allows runeforge enchants on heirlooms, although it’s still restricted to the DK. If you mail it to anyone else, they’ll have to switch it back to a regular enchant.

Oh you can in Cata?

You can put some enchants on heirlooms like Crusader, but regardless the runeforging enchant is not as impactful as having your weapon constantly level up in item level with you.

You can enchant heirloom weapons at their respective levels, so 50+ can runeforge regardless.

Currently leveling a 78 DK, Heirloom weapon will provide better stats and weapon damage than weapons you’ll find at comparable levels until you’re doing the later end of WotLK dungeons.

I did enchant my 2h with crusader, but I don’t know if it really wow’d me with any sort of difference. Runeforge really isn’t vital to your build or leveling experience.

Only in prepatch and cata. You can’t do this in WOTLK as heirlooms are classified as item level 1. my 70 DK can’t put Rune of the Fallen Crusader on my offhand because “Target is too low level”

In cata this restriction gets removed.

you will just stomp leveling content as a dk regardless of weapon of choice

I mean the weapon damage alone being maxed out each level will be well worth it over the enchants, and I would suppose you can enchant level 1 enchants, like fiery.

Just put fiery or crusader on it. I did fine lvl8ng my dj with a heirloom.

I know I can put the inscription shoulder enchant on the boa shoulders, granted the enchant only works if you have inscriptions up to the required level, so it seems like you can put any enchants that would only work for self enchants if I had to guess.
I think it works with the scryer/aldor shoulder enchants, only taking effect once reaching the required level for it. Makes me wonder if the helm enchants will work for the boa helms.
