I want to main a hunter, are guns a viable option in classic and if so what can i do to increase the flexibility of my weapon in terms of damage and accuracy?

Nope. Bows aren’t really even viable. Other than Rhok, all the best weapons in Classic are crossbows.

The best endgame weapons are all crossbows and bows. Not really any good 60 + guns

While lvling you choose whichever one is available and has better stats. Bows will have to be got as quest rewards, drops or purchased off AH. You can MAKE a your lvling guns with engineering.
There’s some good options pre 60, but once you start raiding, most are bows or crossbows. There’s ONE good gun from AQ 40 that’s worth using if you’re dwarf, and that’s about it. But note that weapon skill does very little for hunters once you can hit cap from gear. Ranged shots do not glance or dodge, so all you have are hits, misses, or crits. Once you can hit cap at 300 skill, then skill bonuses are pretty much moot for this class. Troll is nice for early raiding because you’re in garbage gear and the first best weapon, before you’re covered in purples, is a bow. After that, you can easily hit cap from talents/gear/enchants, so skill bonuses are mostly irrelevant.
You won’t really find any that are BiS at 60, but they’re still perfectly fine to use leveling.
Do engineering and you can make new ones every so often. Can make your own scopes to add damage and ammo. Tauren/Dwarf hunters start with guns, otherwise you’ll have to run to their cities to learn the skill.

They are way too noisy mate, nothing you can do about it either…other toons wont stand next to you either…I use them if they are an upgrade but they suck…Dorfs get +5 weapon skill to guns but the best weapons are not guns…

Guns are the worst. I hate when we have been forced to use them.
I think there was a decent gun in AQ40 that dropped off that optional worm boss. I can’t remember his name. There was also the engineering crafted gun and the pvp weapons.
The lack of guns towards end game is what’s keeping me from rolling a Hunter main. I like the old guns. I like their sound and they fit the image of a Dwarven Hunter. Crossbows, I guess, wouldn’t be so bad. Is it the same stance as guns?
But bows? No thanks. I am a longbow archer IRL and I’m picky about bow animations in games.

I think its slightly different, I seem to remember guns having recoil while crossbows have pushback.
