Most races trade on morals and culture, but the Goblins have at least an interesting vantage point in the world because the financial component of war is rarely emphasized in fantasy. In fact the only thing that comes to mind is the Iron Bank from GoT. And that made the story a lot more fun, imo, because they were both a rational actor and a wildcard. Where they saw the advantage, by whatever calculation they come up with, is where they go.
Post-Shadowlands, I think there should be a patch if not an expansion given to the resource wars that goblin cartels fuel.
Please no. Unless you are human, any race that that Blizz decides to center on gets their home blown up/melted/radiationized/etc. Heck our own starting area / capital got blown up by a dragon activating a volcano.
I’d rather get no attention when the only alternative is to become a giant punching bag for the devs.
The Ferengi are the goblins of star trek. Just as the Vulcans are the elves of star trek, the Romulans are the Drow of star trek, the Klingons are the orcs of star trek, …
The repurposing of fantasy tropes didn’t start recently.
I would just like to point out… the Klingons were originally inspired by the Soviets, as in the Original Series many of the episodes featuring them were critiques of the proxy wars between the West and the Soviets at the time.
It wasn’t until TNG that they were made more Alien, though this was very well retconned/explained in DS:9 and Enterprise, in my opinion.
