Are evokers the worst hero class to launch?

besides feeling very squishy while playing a dragon the mess with soar and all the range bs i feel like evokers are the least played new class. any time im on mine im the sole evoker in the raid or its me and 1 healer. i almost never see them in keys either. how bad did blizzard mess up that a new class is being played so little. i remember seeing 4/5 in a group being a dk/dh/monk when they were new

The class is handicapped, especially its dps tree. Poor defensives for 25yrd range. heals don’t make up for its lack of defensives. Best healers until top tier M+ content, then it falls off quickly.

I feel like this was the idea, from the talent tree design you can 100% tell the healer was the initial design talks for Evoker, and the DPS spec was kinda tacked on because it couldn’t just be a healing spec.

Even now Devastations logs in raid are about half of what Havoc DH is, even though Devastation is performing very well in the raid it doesn’t seem like enough to make more people want to pick up the class, and at this point I’m looking at rerolling in 10.1 if not 10.0.7, Evoker still has many of its teething issues which to me start to spoil the fun you can have with the class.

Part of it is that we’re plagued with bugs. Part of it is the unintuitive design.

I’ve grown a lot more comfortable sticking with it, but it does have its problems.

Cool, sheer numbers, I may digress from preservation, but it only proved the point that Devoker is gimped. Now click all roles and you will notice on average the class is not appearing.

Evoker is a healer class with a damage spec.

That said, if you get the rotation right with talents that can complement each other and play style, the damage can be pretty solid.

The other issue is that we seem to collectively confuse DPS as the only metric to guage, and not over all utility. There are times I drop my DPS because I can aid my team better by being an off healer (healer needs mana, went down, big spikes).

during explosive week on my evoker i drop my dps every time to make sure i get the orbs. if im running with friends there already gonna do more dps than me so if i can focus on the orbs so they can keep up the damage to end the fight quicker im always gonna go with that. this post was mainly aimed at the lack of evokers in groups from what ive seen. today was my first pugged raid where i had a devoker. i do believe that if they either got rid of the stupid 25/30yd range cap and went to a full 40 like everyone else or set us up as being able to cast on the go with hover being a “o crap” button or used to cast while empowering spells it would go along way to get more people to play while also fixing some of the frustration that the players who do play as a evoker have

This puts it succinctly. Preservation feels unique and fresh. It feels like the original idea for the class.

We need to see what makes preserv unique and bring it to devastation!

Give echo for damage spell!
Give Fiery Blossom with fire sprouts!
Give Red-hot Embrace! Casting it before FB will raise FB by 40%!
Increase the radius of fire breath!

I would loooove to have echo for dps. I was honestly pretty sad about the non-existing bronze damage abilities. I understand why it doesn’t have them but bronze potential is huge but it got so little. If not echo, stasis would be cool. :smirk:

I would love to see this, at the very least 20%

I agree that this class was designed as a healer class with a damage spec. I just wish the damage spec would have a little bit more healing for the lack of defensives. In most mythic plus dungeons I’ve run I am last in healing and so many classes seem to have some leech mechanism built into them. Devoker doesn’t have an “oh crap” button like a lot of classes that would bring our health up fast. Living flame takes forever to spam, emerald blossom is a mediocre aoe heal, and verdant embrace heals for like 10-20% of your health.
In my opinion, devastation would benefit from a big single target heal on like a minute and thirty-second cooldown. I have noticed, especially on bursting, that my health is going down quicker than others, even with a 10-15 ilvl advantage over teammates. I sometimes use obsidian scales before a group dies on bursting and the benefit seems to be marginal. The rate at which my health declines while using obsidian scales is about the same as my teammates who are several ilvls below me.

Be cool if renewing blaze healed for 30% instantly

Honestly… i looked back at this with Wraths launch.

DK had no identity. It was their first Hero class and everybody and their dog played it. This resulted in a massive flood of players who performed worse then good players in the class.

All 3 talent trees were considered tank/dps. Frost was suppose to be the spec focusing on armor via passives and such but ended up changing to Blood the next expansion.

While Frost was suppose to be the tank spec, Unholy was the go to because of its threat generation and lichborne healing with death bolts.
They also missed out on the chance to make a plate ranged caster when Blood was nominated as the tank spec, and i feel like that chance is gone now. Necromancer is the only chance we have now and while its magic is starting to show up in lore a whole bunch more, it seems forbidden within player lore.

Blood was suppose to be the single target DPS but for some reason had life drain on it. any one that played blood was not taken seriously.

If your class is defined by a stance that all 3 specs get. IMO its not working as intended.

As of current i think Evoker is the buggiest launch, but its not the worst. Both roles are very clear on what they are there for same as DH was. There are challenges to take but its not Ebon Swarm levels of bad.

see but as you explained here each of the dk specs sounded like they were thought out. evoker feels like it was designed as preservation exclusively and then way down the line someone asked about a 2nd spec and everyone just said what doyou mean a 2nd spec. it feels very rushed and slaped together. also back in the early days of wotlk i was out dpsing everyone as blood. i dont remember the problem with ebon swarm though
