I know this is a subjective question, but for those enjoying it what are your thoughts? Especially the dps spec.
I haven’t done much with this character, but with TBC TW this week, I might try to level up.
This isnt a min/max best in situations question. Just in general. Fluidity of a spec and its buttons. Can you get and stay in a general rhythm or is it clunky and proc based, so you have to react to procs instead?
It’s definitely proc-based.
Though most of the time you’re casting LF before hitting another button just after the cast finishes to pad the damage while the projectile travels. Sometimes it’s Disintegrate, sometimes you immediately cast a second LF when it procs. The most you’re trying to do is to keep the GCD rolling because of your ABCs and whatnot.
It gets a little more faster in 10.1 afaik but the talent tree suffers for it.
I have played Evoker all of dragonflight and I can say they are very fun. But When it comes to rated PVP you wont be able to compete against other classes.

For me the healer spec is fun, even with the small range. It has all the tools a healer needs and even more, and i played all healers. Evoker is the most complete.
DPS spec lacks something and cant say i enjoy it as much as i would like. I find shamans, mages, warlocks a lot more fun to play, with a lot more tools, and the range is definitly more a problem.
Maybe next patch i will change my mind

Agreed I have way more fun with my mage and warlock and rogue. Dps Evoker needs more tools and Defensives. Its nearly impossible to win against a good Warlock or a good Mage when playing at high rating 2k+ we only have 1 cc with a cooldown and 1 stun which has a Cd and is super easy to dodge. I really hope they fix it because I really enjoy PVP just not on my evoker.

The problem is dps spec did not get the same treatment as healer spec.
I mean, even if preservation has a smaller range, it can pull really high healing and has tools that will help save the team better than other healer.
Dps on the other hand has worse CC, worse interrupt, and at smaller range. Even worse survability

Hey im a devastation main since beta and i can tell you it is so much fun that i cant even bring myself to play another class. It has some glaring issues like the range and defensive weakness but overall i believe those aspects will be improved over time. You will definitely enjoy it

Ill give it a stronger try next weekend. Tbc is pretty much the easiest of TW weeks. Ill see how that goes with leveling.
Oh, where is the better place for talent picks? Use to be ict-veins, but ive heard grumblings they aren’t what they use to be.
Very fun to play. Much less fun to play seriously.

Not really. I mean Preservation Spec you’ll get a lot of positive responses before who ever messed with the abilities, and I found the unique talent, gameplay, and design a 10/10. As for Devastation, its . Lets be real. With all the Dragon type abilities/lore in game, Mage specs that revolve around Fire/Frost/Arcane, and look what bull Devastation got. The idea is there, but the execution for Devastation in terms of talent tree/gameplay/design is a 0/10.
Pres is a 10. The people that were obsessed with gravely overtuned temp anomaly (pre nerf) might disagree, but it’s a 10. The range is a non issue unless your group has 2-3 “main character” hunters.
Dev is kind of bland, but getting quite a few things reworked in 10.1.
Take the negativity around here with a grain of salt. EVERY, and I mean EVERY class forum whines about how bad their class is. If you go based on the forums, EVERY class is boring and bad.

the only bad true is that Dev is squishy in pvp

Devastation is terrible with Timewalking because it needs mobs to actually stay alive, sure you can do some burst damage but we get more value out of long fights for dungeons.
Evoker has been my main since the class has been released. I play Devestation. I have not played any other class since then. I play all content including mythic, raiding, and PvP. A lot of people will generally have a harsh view on Evoker and while I do think that a decent amount of it can have grounds to stand on, I do not share the experience of it feeling like it lacks in all content. It is very easy for me to top the dps score during mythic. In raiding, I normally top 5 and can be even higher. In PvP, I normally top the scoreboard. I think people especially underestimate just how good devestation evoker can be in PvP. The amount of freedom you have against CC is nuts. I have passives that lets me be immune against slowing and interrupts, while moving at a fast speed. You also get a talent that lets you be immune to the next three stuns. I have tail whip and wing buffet to act as additional interrupts or to give me space against melee. Along with an additional ability that will root everyone in a path. There’s more abilities that I could go on about with how great they are in PvP. Evoker has so many utilities that are essential to learn to keep yourself moving and alive while being able to burst incredible damage. This class has been the most fun I’ve ever had in any content and especially for pvp. Don’t be discouraged from the initiale learning of how to stay alive. It’s rewarding and turns heads when you feel like you’ve mastered the class

Hi Figment.
I may be in the minority but I’ve been having a blast playing Devastation Evoker. I’ve even dabbled with a couple other classes (Feral Druid and Arcane Mage) and I’ve come back to the Devastation Evoker each time. The class might not be for everyone, but there is something about the empowering spell system and “charging up” spells that I find very enjoyable. The big burst you can put out is definitely there, but because of the need to “charge up” some of our skills, our damage profile can be inconsistent at times, depending on who else you are raiding/ grouping with.
As it currently stands, the spec is proc based. Your main damage CD is Dragonrage, and your proc chance/ spell clipping will allow you to extend it’s duration. You are basically trying to keep Dragonrage up for as long as possible using your proc chance to reset CD’s.
The one thing I would say at this point is if you like the empower system, then give it a go. Everything else is pretty subject to change since the spec is still relatively new. 10.1 is bringing changes that look to alter the way we play, so fingers crossed for improvements!

This isn’t really true anymore. You’re basically guaranteed 4 extensions unless you do something horribly wrong, and you’ll never see 5/6 outside of lust.
I believe you only clip disintegrate now if its to cast an empowered spell or something of equally high priority.
I dunno I kinda enjoy forcing hunters to move next to melee to make my life easier
You gonna sit here and attack and like it lol
I just swapped from Arcane mage in the last patch, to Devastation in this one.
Gotta say, it’s a night and day scenario for me. Arcane was such a frustrating class to play this expansion, but Evoker has been so fun.
The 10.1 changes definitely improved things for me, just having Shattering Star grant an Essence Burst is huge for keeping things flowing during Dragonrage.
I’ve been a hardline Arcane main since… Cataclysm, I guess. Never thought I’d have to switch off it. But honestly? Considering how much I’m enjoying Devastation, I’m not sure I’m ever going back, even if they end up changing Arcane in the future.

Well this is just an alt but coming back to my Devoker in 10.1 is personally alot more fun than it was in season 1. I’ve been enjoying it alot
Aug Feels like a mix between an elemental shaman and a fire/arcane mage. Its not very much fun to play and questing with it is very rough.
