They are often refered to as space goats yea, but there is many creatures that have hooves. What if they are actually space llamas?
They’re space alpacas, I demand one as my mount.
I believe if you must compare them to an earth animal it would be more like a goat alligator squid.
but the whole spacegoat thing was because people couldn’t remember how to spell draenei they kept messing it up and people started to call them spacegoats and it stuck.

Nope, their closest cousins in the high fantasy genre would be DND tieflings . . . Only Draenei aren’t half breeds and more so the original / pure form of a demon species.
I’d guess (never payed much attention to it back in the day) the space goat thing got started because they have both horns and hooves and just kinda stuck around like every other community joke like Tauren’s lack of stealth due to hooves, gnome punting / eating, gnome druid battle pet forms and orcish rock eating. (There’s more but I ain’t listing all that tripe here)
