Are Death Knights evil or good?

I would say that was the best depiction of free-will DK’s ingame.

I also personally liked the choice of slaughtering the Red Dragons and essentially making them extinct. I get why Blizz went back on that as canon, but it was still another perfect depiction of DKs and player choice. (I snuffed them out like a candle, fyi)

We are the embodiment of revenge incarnate, agents of death now intent on preserving life

We dont seek atonement or forgiveness for the past we strive ahead intent on carving out a future without being slaves to anyone like the lich king

The future is ours and we will not be denied

Forsaken were created by less powerful necromancy. In Legion Darion explicitly mentions the fact that death knights are still under the effects of the eternal hunger. Which suggests that the eternal hunger is more than just an impulse like it is for the Forsaken.

If a solder physically had to not just kill people periodically, but to inflict pain and suffering do you think that would be normal and fine?

Death knights aren’t evil because their powers can make them powerful heroes for good causes and the Ebon Blade are champions of Azeroth, but they are certainly closer to that line than they would be if they weren’t death knights.

We’re Batman.

Batman would never intentionally kill his foe then go out to brunch afterwards

Make no mistake were heroes but not morally ambiguous

Theyre goovil

But seriously, they’re an antihero, think deadpool: they get the job done and are mostly serving “good” purposes, but do it in a very morally shady way

It depends. Horde DKs are evil and Alliance DKs are good.

as A warcraft 3 nerd I see both dk and dh as a “necessary evil” for their cause. Yes - to us dk’s were an “Evil” entity, but really they were fighting and dying for a cause they felt was ethical (hindsight - it may have been). Dh are in the same boat in my opinion.

So to answer your question - I see them as evil - but with a good cause (depending on who’s side you’re on ;))

If DKs had an alignment wed be aberrant

In terms from the pallidium book series Rifts an aberrant person

  1. Always keeps his word of honor
  2. Lie & cheat those not worthy of his respect
  3. May or may not kill an unarmed foe
  4. Not kill an innocent particularly a child but will harm or kidnap
  5. Never kill for pleasure
  6. Not resort to inhumane treatment of prisoners, but torture, although distasteful, is necessary means of extracting info.
  7. Never torture for pleasure
  8. May or may not help someone in need
  9. work with others to attain his goals
  10. Respect honor and self-discipline
  11. Never betray a friend

So, good and evil are childish concepts that have no basis in reality.

Which means, like everyone else, they’re neither. They’re morally ambiguous individuals with a predisposition for either benevolence, malevolence, or apathy.

Given the eternal hunger I don’t know if that’s necessarily true.

Well generally most would adhere to that but yes some moral compasses arent in working order

It’s not a moral failing, it’s a physical necessity. If death knights don’t regular cause pain and suffering they go into a mindless blood frenzy.

They’re good, unless they’re pandaren.

the 3rd gen maybe, but 1 and 2nd gen don’t.

third gens are probably made this way to make it that even if they regain freedom, they still will be an issue and just go on a killin spree.

neither, they’re batman. they NEED to cause pain and suffering to others but do so for a good cause usually.

That would depend on your point of view.

They are evil. Even evil can do good every now and then. Hitler wanted to end smoking.

While under the control of Arthas they had no free will and were merely tools of the lich king, much like a weapon. Thus a weapon is not good or evil but the person using them. Since Arthas used them they are neither but Arthas is Evil.

Now after getting their free will back that depends per each knight as some can be evil and others good.
