I just tested whispering someone from a different server but same faction and it worked. I do not remember this being an option in the past. Is this intended?
If it’s a BNET tag, then yes.
And it’s cross game titles, anything bnet launches
He’s not talking about BNet tags. You can message people cross-realm by typing/w Playername-Servername This was not possible back in vanilla. I assume this feature exists in Classic because we’re playing a retail client that is rolled back to patch 1.12 and Blizzard either couldn’t or didnt bother to remove it.
it only happens in BGs, never seen it happen outside it though.
It works outside BG’s you can continue to smack talk after the game ends lol

I don’t know what to do with this information.
I can get heated sometimes in BGs, especially when we’re losing and the slate gets wiped as soon as it ends but now…

Now… is this tied to BG’s or can you do this to anyone at any time? I know in the past I have sometimes been able to continue a conversation with someone from another server for a short time after a BG ends.

I meant non battle net whisper. I was able to whisper someone on a different server last night that I never have been in a bg with and has never been a btag friend of mine.
I have not been able to talk to another person outside of a BG. There’s been a few times I was having a good convo with someone in AV and, when the game ended, I wanted to say “so long” and whatnot, but as soon as the BG ended and they were no longer in the game, communication was no longer possible.
So if it works now, it’s a change that occurred some time within the last month or two?

I feel like i reached out to a few people via this method
I’m sure players will use this feature to congratulate one another and help usher in an age of positive feedback and encouragement.

if you were in a battleground recently to when it happened, sometimes its possible for that to happen, no idea why it just works.

You can message same-faction players across servers any time. BGs are irrelevant. There might be limitations based on server type, I’m not sure.
Just tested and it works. There was a weird delay before the first message went through.
I dont really care whether or not it’s in the game. As you said, it doesnt affect anything.
