not really, all blizzard could had done was what ffxiv did right for their paladin; a strike that’s part of the rotation with the job of giving the paladin mana. Blizz could had simply made it so Holy Strike does dmg and give mana or add 1 more strike that gives mana.
Blizzard will never buff the Classic Paladin.
My husband played a paladin when WoW was released. He called her his “stasis field” because nothing could hurt her, but on the other hand, he couldn’t hurt anything either (PvE).
I also remember getting a boomerang (in Un’goro?) with him because up until then, he didn’t have any ranged abilities. I don’t know what talents he had chosen, which worked a lot differently in that you could choose a mixture of talents from the three trees, at least for leveling.
No point here, just a blast from the past.
Except you can tank on a paladin viably and hold threat /taunt using the blessings of kings threat builder. Infact paladins generate more threat in classic than any other class. 1 cast of grearer blessing of kings generates 2x more threat than a warriors taunt.
They are also uncrushable.
Nobody took a Ret or even a Prot Paladin to raids in Vanilla. You were either Holy or bust. It was the same deal with most of the healer classes.
Then BC came along and fixed everything.
Wish WoD and or Pandaria Paladin version would return, i know that WoD had its reputation due to being a half baked expansion, but the gameplay of the classes were on point at least IMO. Pandaria suffered due to the PANDAS theme, but once again the gameplay was fun, even the lore bits in Pandaria under the panda sh*tposting was neat.
Seals that had purpose and utility that interacted with judgement, which has been removed, and then slapped back into the game in a way that isn’t satisfying, or in line with the legacy of the paladin as a class that people fell in love with. It had style and flavor. Blessings that you could use on yourself and others, and created a form of social interaction via drive-by buffing.
Now Paladin’s a rogue-warrior-shaman freak with a garbage resource system that SL has made all the more ridiculous. When I checked out my paladin in the prepatch I came to find that I had 1 ability that used the holy power, and up to 2 talents made the holy power cost meangingless.
They took 20% mount speed and retribution aura out of our passive spellbook / PvP talents, and slapped it on the active ability bar. They call that unpruning. All they’ve really done is spread our abilities around differently.
People that enjoy the Classic paladin liked it for many reasons, and while it had it’s downsides - I don’t see how ripping it all apart and reinventing the class was necessary. Now judgement is a standalone thing, and crusader strike does physical - not holy - damage because the type of damage is just a color in the game now, and not a whole other dynamic system.
Problem is that Blizzard never asked the community hey you guys still having fun with this interation of the class?
So they reinvent the wheel every patch and its BFA they dropped the ball hard, because they basically done the Legion Paladin but without most of the artifact weapon abilities so it felt a worst version of Legion. Now with Shadowlands, it seems they picked random paladin abilities that do nothing so I hope they left the brunt of the utility and fun stuff with the covenants but the information out there is scarce so I know on the surface that people are having fun with Kyrian and the vampire covenant but we don’t know how it translate in numbers and if it will affect us in a point of having an entire patch cycle being left behind in the bench because in terms of efficiency is not doable to bring a retribution paladin.
Ahhh the good old days where devs despised hybrids.
I kinda liked the classic ret as fan of a passive gameplay. The massive 2h hits felt great. I wish it was more viable, I would totally play it.
You clearly didn’t play pally in the vanilla beta if that is what you think of the class now, retail wow Paladin is closer to the original idea of the Paladin class than that abomination of a weak Cleric. Classic wow’s paladin is nothing more than a cleric that lacks the magical abilities of a Cleric that actually makes it good. The class got neuter so bad when those paladin haters took over as dev that we didn’t even get to see a warcraft paladin for years.
The original idea behind that class had a build up dmg system, Crusader Strike doing melee dmg & stacking a debuff on the enemy stacking up 5 times that increases Holy dmg done and with each debuff, our Holy Damage Strike in the form of Holy Strike does more damage. A system that blizz transition over to building points instead of stacking the debuff & unleashing that Holy Damage Strike in the form of Templar’s Verdict instead of Holy Strike.
If blizz simply gave classic pally their Crusader Strike & Holy Strike back with some modification that Crusader Strike give a buff that stack up 5 times instead of the debuff & have Holy Strike give some mana then the class would actually be viable even with the seal system still in play for classic. Holy Strike could easily be made the last tier ret talent, and crusader strike a tier above; & make sant aura reduce healing done by the paladin who has the aura on by 30-50% and it will balance out the healing issue that can come with the dmg increase.
Avatar me bro. I didn’t roll this class on accident.
Took you 3 years to muster this line?
Jeez man…
