So there was a blue post yesterday stating that beta invites were rapidly slowing down as they meet their needs for testing, and that they will invite as needed in the future.
They very discretely but VERY intentionnaly baited tens of thousands of people into resubbing for a chance at beta when their chances were less than 1% from the beginning.
I don’t agree with the method, but let’s not go overboard skippy. While the cash grab tactic isn’t a morally great thing to do, it’s not illegal…
You mean people thought there was a BETTER than 1% chance of getting BETA if they subscribed?
And here my mindset was I would have NO chance at beta if I didn’t.
I used a game time token… and was invited to the Stress Test. Got to install the client, wipe on the Login Boss for 3 hours, finally defeat it, Fight a BUNCH of players for mobs that stayed alive less than a second, tested a couple addons, leveled to 5.
Was it worth $15? Nope. It was priceless! The miniscule chance to get into ANY aspect of Classic before launch? Definitely worth $15.
I’m sure though, that for everyone like me, there are thousands who did not get invited.
Anyone who gambles expecting to win all the time… needs to understand the difference between gambling and purchasing.
The community has been asking for years for Vanilla wow, and we are finally getting it.
Activision/Blizz have provided the Dev team with a very tight budget to get this done. The team involved seem to be acting in good faith but also need to try to show that there is real interest and the project can self-support.
-They have no marketing budget - so they need streamers to help advertise (think about it, have you seen any adverts?)
-They need to show people will resub for classic and that there is real interest.
You want to paint them as villains, but I want to invite you to try to see the challenges they are dealing with here. They are on our side. The question is do you have what it takes to help support this project? Or is this just all about what you feel you are entitled to?
Blizzard also said if you weren’t already subbed and didnt intend on playing then you shouldnt resub for a minuscule chance at getting a beta invite. They were very clear that slots were limited and that your chances were low regardless of whether or not you met the parameters.
We all know that Blizzard is using this beta as an opportunity to make money and hype up the game. I don’t believe their main focus right now is testing Classic… The goal is getting people to sub the next few months for a chance to get their hands on the game and continue free advertisement through Twitch. Blizzard is good at making money these days… Not so good at making games and connecting with their fans.
i was just quoting you and telling you what CMs have said here on the forums. because you were correcting people on not knowing the difference between a purchase and a gamble. which its pretty clear that you dont either.
Go easy on the kid. Millennials have a hard time understanding that video game companies, just like other corporations, exist to make a profit. Not because they “like gamers.”
And remember - these are the same kids that subscribe to Twitch streamers and give them money through donations just to have their silly comment read. For no reason and for no return value.
If Blizzard had gone ahead and only selected subscribed people, without stating that fact. The same people complaining now, would be complaining they they were not told to sub for a chance. And no point tell people to subscribe. They simply stated the facts of how you could be chosen.
you shouldn’t be subbing for a chance to get a beta invite. It didn’t even take me 5 seconds of deliberation after I found out that beta invites were to sub only to decide not to sub and instead go with the other plan for that bit of money.
May not bother with coming back for 8.2 out of spite as well and stick with FFXIV until classic launches. Didn’t like the BfA sub required plan from inception since they’re such different games and “quality testers” excuse was a rather weak cover up for them wanting people gambling their 15$ for next few months.
Nope… we fully agree. Nothing was misrepresented. Blizzard stated the criteria for being invited… and an active sub was one. No where did they say “Your chances of getting into BETA are XX%… or subscribing will increase you chances.”
In fact, there was a post that specifically said NOT to subscribe if the reasoning was to have a chance at beta because it was VERY limited.
not from a single blue, no. there was a recent blue that stated the beta invites were going to slowly drop, as they about have the population they need.
No they never said subscribing would increase chances… they said it was required.
And I am sure there is a comment from Blizzard that said something to the effect of Yes, a subscription is required, but if a person was going to renew their sub just for that chancce at a very minuted beta… he would not recommend that.
